My O2 contract ends soon - any good iPhone 4 deals out there?

Hi, my deal ends in 2 days, so I thought I'd start looking around to see what else is on offer - bit late I know! Currently I have a 3G iPhone on the £35 a month contract - (minus £7 = £28 per month with my loyalty discount) I get 600mins and 500 texts and unlimited web & wifi & free landline calls.
Once my contract ends (18month) I lose the loyalty discount, so back to £35 per month.
Just spoken to O2 and they ran through the deals on offer. I really want an iPhone 4. So she worked out the best thing for me to do: it was to buy an iPhone 4 handset from O2 shops or Apple, then get the O2 Simplicity on the 12 month rolling contract. For this I get 600 minutes, 100mb of data (hardly use this much as I use my Wifi at home for downloading most things) and unlimited texts - sounds like a good deal to me?
Then I'm not tied in for 18 or 24 months and can cancel at any point with 30 days notice?
They have an offer on at the moment, so tariff would be £18.50 per month with a £5 discount making it £13.50 per month - plus you get a £50 M&S voucher.
I can sell my iPhone 3G back to them for £92. So it works out much cheaper than tying myself into a contract, although the upfront cost of the handset is more, it seems a good deal.
Has anyone got any better deals than this? They said it's on for 2 weeks, so I have a little bit of time to work out if it's the best thing to do?
Thanks

Surprised they said the deal is on for another 2 weeks (which ties in near to the rumoured launch of new handsets) , but I agree, get into the habit of purchasing a handset outright and stick with the low monthly tariffs that are available.0

iphone 4 currently £510
12 months @ £13.50
minus £96 selling iphone back to o2
= £576 for a year.
tescomobile do:
iphone4 @ £335.00
12 months @ £25
sell iphone 3g back to 02 at £96
= £539 (250mins 5000 txt and 1g internet) or add another £120 for 750mins.
still on o2.
I would sell the phone on ebay and get at least an extra £40.
BUT
I would buy the simplicity now with a £10 throwaway :money::money:mobile and wait till iphone5 comes out in about 4 weeks and then get the iphone 4 even cheaper!!0 -
Thanks chillsky, that's a good point about the release of the iPhone 5 bringing down the prices of the 4... perhaps I'll hold off a little while.
Also I think I'll need to stay on O2, rather than go onto Tesco (O2) as I've got the O2 broadband deal which makes it half price. Plus I'd probably need more than 250 mins talk time - good to compare though.
Hmm decisions, decisions...Look after the pennies and the pounds will look after themselves!

Possibvly.
When Iphone 4 came out the 3GS in the 16 and 32 GB versions was withdrawn and the 8GB introduced.
Yest the 8GB 3gs was cheaper but it was an entry level product, Apple tend to withdraw stocks and use them for warranty repairs than sell cheaply. Remember if they are too cheap they will take away from iPod sales.
O2 and Orance hve cut prices on the 3GS most likley to clear stocks, but I would not expect iPhone 4 to drop a lot unless it's re-released with less memory as for the 3GS0 -

Interesting stuff. So what price can we expect the 5 to come in at? Do the prices tend to increase with each new release? Will we be paying £1k for the iPhone 10?!0 -
Well Im a bit of a phone geek and word on the street is:
The iphone 5 will be available direct from Apple and that you will buy the phone THEN choose your network provider.
possibly giving Apple more power than just letting networks do their own deals.
There is also talk of a cheaper iphone released that will store all its data with Apples icloud service(ie internet).
Id suspect the iphone 5 to retail around £480 and the icloud at about £270
These are my own wild stabs in the dark though! (Disclaimer)
Regardless is you are about to end a contract, and your happy with your monthly bill why not try and get the best free upgrade you can , simply sell it to subsidise your iphone purchase.
better deals wise you could change and simply get your ISP from someone else and releasing yourself one provider. £10 a month for ADSL should be about right.
Personally Id wait IF you REALLY REALLY want the iphone else take that offer !0
