Getting pregnant after Depo

  • I was on pill for 3 years and depo for 4 years. I came off depo when the nurse advised that you shouldnt have it for more than 2 years running and she put me onto a oestrogen only pill. that lasted about 2 weeks and then i kept forgetting to take it so have just gone to condoms only... it took well over a year for my periods to return and then a further 6 months + for them to become regular... obviously this was very scary for me because for that whole year a day didnt go past without me worrying if i would ever have a period again!

  • depo - took me 2 years to get pregnant with DD1. Pill - took me 3 month to get pregnant with DD2 lol
  • I was on depo for 5 years, after the birth of my son, and came off it in January. My periods came back the next month, although I'm now on the mini-pill, not ttc.

Thanks everyone for your replies :) I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens, no point in panicking yet.

Although DH is now freaking out and saying we can't afford it anyway so it might be completely pointless worrying about it :(

To be honest I think sometimes it's just hard to conceive full stop and not really blamed on anything in particular.

It's normal for it to take a year to conceive. You also hear of people conceiving child number one easily and then having problems conceiving number two.

Well said, i got pregnant with my son 4 months after coming off the pill yet 18 months after starting trying for #2 i'm still trying. I had not been on the pill for 9 months before i started trying this time.

I was on depo years ago and fell pregnant about 3 months after coming off it, I had a lot of bleeding after coming off it though, but it didn't cause any problems. As has already been said, everyone is different, sometimes it happens quickly and sometimes it doesn't. At the moment I am 4 months after having my implant removed and TTC, who knows how long it may take? x

It took me almost 2 years to start getting periods again after I stopped Depo :o

I was worried and my GP even referred me for further tests to see what was going on. They did evetually come back of their own accord and I was back to my regular cycle but I stayed on the pill after that.

    Good luck!

I only had one shot of Depo (it didn't agree with me) and, if memory serves me, it took about 6 months for my periods to return. I got pregnant in the first cycle so I assumed that when your periods were back then your fertility is back. Is that not the case? I lost the baby, sadly, but it's not even crossed my mind that the Depo jab had anything to do with it, just bad luck.
