Getting pregnant after Depo

Just wondering if anyone has got pregnant (or tried to) after being on Depo? I keep hearing horror stories of people who have had a terrible time trying to conceive and it's really started to scare me.
I've just had my last ever Depo jab a week ago, and am hoping that when it wears off my body will go back to normal fairly quickly, but from what I've read that isn't very likely. I've been on it a long time (on and off probably ten years, currently about five or six years). I would love to be pregnant in a year or so's time (I'm 31 so not getting any younger) but starting to be a bit pessimistic.
Would be very grateful to hear of your experiences and/or receive any advice

Hi OP,
I was on the Depo jab up until Dec last year when me and hubby started to think about trying for a baby. I saw the Nurse who advised me to go on to the Pill (which I did in Jan) She told me to stay on it for 6 months or so, then come off and start trying. I came off the pill in April (not quite 6 months, but I'm impatient!) and I fell pregnant in May! I'd heard horror stories as well and was worried after I'd been on the depo for a good few years, but it didn't take that long for me. I'd recommend seeing your doc/nurse for advice like I did.
Good luck.:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

I was on Depo and came off after my GP told me it wasn't recommended to be on it long term. Like you, I'd been on it off and on for about 10 years and no-one had ever mentioned that might be a problem before. I didn't have periods while I was on it and it took around 10 months for them to come back after I stopped having the injections. I had come off it once before though and it didn't take that long for them to come back, so I've no idea why it took so long the second time.
I wasn't TTC when I came off it and didn't for a couple of years afterwards, so it's hard to say how much of an effect it had on my fertility. When I did start TTC I conceived within 6 weeks so it definitely didn't cause any lasting problems. You can do anything, make anything, dream anything. I went on depo after birth of baby 2. We decided tho wanted another child but it took about 18m to fall preg. I was 25 when finally got preg .Longest time ever on pill I've fallen within 1-3 months of coming off pill.
Our 4th baby is due tomoz and there is no way I'm going back on depo0 -
I was on it and got pregnant soon after stopping having it.
Everyone is different.
Good luck.0 -
I didnt have periods for well over a year after coming off it, I had been on it for 2-3 years.

I conceived baby number 4 two weeks before I was due to have my next jab. Good job the morning sickness kicked in quickly otherwise I might have unknowingly had the next jab and then goodness only knows what effect that would have had on DS3:eek:I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.0 -
Had two shots and ttc for almost 5 years and nothing happened - fertility tests on myself and then husband showed nothing wrong so all I can blame is the depo.
Heard good stories and bad stories alike at a ratio of about 5:1. Hope you're one of the luckier ones

Same here, it took a good year or so for my periods to come back and for them to settle into a normal cycle (though i've not tried to get pregnant!)mishkanorman wrote: »I didnt have periods for well over a year after coming off it, I had been on it for 2-3 years.

To be honest I think sometimes it's just hard to conceive full stop and not really blamed on anything in particular.
It's normal for it to take a year to conceive. You also hear of people conceiving child number one easily and then having problems conceiving number two.0
