Oh dear. We did the bathrooms while I was pregnant. That doesn't mean I was dancing around in poop all day. My husband did the plumbing (I was the one who went out and bought it all) and I did all the tiling.

Have never seen any evidence of rats around here. Mind you, I lived in London for 15 years and never saw one there either. I can understand how someone who has had issues with rats would be obsessed with them to the point of paranoia, but they just don't feature in my world.

And my baby boy is ridiculously healthy, thank you!

No you are. They are just horrid things altogether and from a plumbing perspective a pretty poor fit. Simple as that.

Oh they sound pretty horrible, who wants crenelated poo after all. I've not fitted one but they sound like a quick fix where you should take the extra five minutes to fit a proper extension.

I was merely commentating on andrew-b who was insinuating that mildred1978 was a terrible person for going anywhere near some plumbing when she was pregnant.

There are far too many Health and Safety scaremongers on this forum. I sometimes wonder how I managed to reach my great age at all.

There are so many different types of pan connector available that virtually any pan can be connected without recourse to flexible connectors.

I used a flexi pan connector on our loo but the angle was a bit too tight for the short length between pan and soil pipe. It blocked on the first morning. Not my favourite of memories even after one day of use! Replaced it with a rigid pan connector..fine ever since. Flexis aren't particularly cheap compared to rigid.

Sorry but why would anyone who is pregnant be changing pan connectors? That's just irresponsible.
She was pregnant,it does not mean she cannot do anything as long as she is being careful.

I admit my bump stopped me being able to fit behind the loo to do any plumbing, but I tiled 3 bathroom floors and 3 bathroom walls with no problems at all!

Flexi ones arent great, and like keystone says they trap all-sorts. take an old one out and you get first hand knowledge of this.

you dont need to use ply, but if you do you must use at least 12mm.

See this for info my blog post on tiling a wooden floor
  • As the OP, i guess i should say that i think this thread has taken a bit of a turn!
Thanks for the advice on the toilet.

Glad to hear your son is now doing well andrew_b

I'm also glad that no-one has been dragged down their drains by a giant rat, but when i come to fit my new toilet i may just harness myself to the wall just in case ;) Seriously though, point noted. Anything to do with raw sewage is something that must be treated with caution but as long as it's done properly and with awareness of the risks, then i hope that like myself, i will avoid any horrible diseases!
