Yes, but a LTSB customer in England or Wales could come to Scotland and use a LTSB Scotland machine, when they are sold, where then, will it be sending people off to look for branches of Bank of Scotland instead?

Sorry I missed that point in my rush to make different points. Clearly LTSB "Cashcard" customers in England would be better with a Natwest/RBS Basic bank account.:D

Only a NatWest one as the RBS branches in England are going to and RBS customers can only use RBS/Tesco machines, and Natwest customers, Natwest/Tesco machines as far as I know. I don't think it is a case of RBS and Natwest customers being able to use all the group machines such as RBS/Natwest/Ulster Bank etc. So it adds even more restrictions on.

Not so. From my notification email...

"The main change to your account relates to withdrawing cash. Once your account has changed, you will only be able to withdraw cash from:

RBS, NatWest or Ulster Bank branded cash machines within the UK or Gibraltar"

and various other methods are mentioned including Post Office counter and store "cashback".

I would assume that after the sale to Santander of the RBS branches in England (and the NatWest branches in Scotland), then the same restrictions would apply. i.e. The Cash Machines at branches put into the ownership of Santander would not be available to RBS Group Basic Account holders.

The email is only informing you of the current situation, not post sale of branches. ;)

BTW : Since RBS Group are partly owned by the tax payer, it is a good thing that the RBS management have decided to maximize profits so that we tax payers get our money back sooner.

  • Will this affect NatWest customers seeing as they are owned by RBS

It is probable that Santander will change account T&Cs over a period of time so that all their customers have the same type of accounts irrespective of the old brand that the customer came from : (Abbey, A&L, RBS, NatWest, etc.)
