Were celebrating and I want to treat OH to a few days in New York early March next year. Always done the travel agent route regards holidays but feel it would add to the occasion if I booked all the details myself.
Don't have a clue where to start so anyone got any help regards cheap flights, hotels, transfers etc or just any tips to get this booked would be appreciated:beer:

I went to New York about 3 years ago and stayed 3 nights in the Marriot Marquis Hotel at Times Square.
I felt totally safe everywhere I went and I am a older person travelling alone I booked my flights with BA travelling from Manchester but they no longer fly direct or so I understand. It was cold but beautifully clear weather and had a fantastic view from the Empire State Building. Contrary to when I had been in NY in July when it had rained and there was little visibility. Even when we sailed in and out of NY.
In January it was wonderful and so clear.
I booked something called the New York Greeter. This is a service where locals will take people on a mostly walking tour of their city. They are volenteers but amazing amount of information and I would not have been able to find a lot of this on my own.
Melbourne in Australia also have their Greeter scheme and I used it about 3 years ago and had a University Professor as my Guide.
They only take a very small group in mine there were 3 of us.
I met some people who had stayed at the Westin in TSQ and they had booked their hotel using Priceline. Got it for 100$ which is a great price. Got 2 rooms on 2 different occasions as there were 4 of them
As a solo traveller I would be wary but for alot of lpeople it works.
I love NY and even ride on the Subway. There are Police everywhere and I felt as I have said before very safe.

Hey,
If you don't know where to start, start by looking at kayak.co.uk for flight prices-great comparison site.
Trivago is a also a hotel comparison site
Maybe do some searching on expedia, lastminute etc, for dates and see what comes up the cheapest. Also take a look at ba holidays and virgin holidays..lots more out there but a few ideas to help you start looking!Save £12K in 2013 £4000/90000 -
We flew in to Newark airport and, to get into Manhattan, we used the Newark Liberty Airport Express bus service. If I remember right, it was $25 return and took about 30-40 minutes. It was much cheaper than a cab. From Starrystarrynight to Starrystarrynight1 and now I'm back...don't have a clue how!0

We flew via Virgin and I have to say they were excellent. The food was good, the entertainment was good and we were upgraded to more legroom seats on both journeys for just £30. We stayed at the Renaissance Times Square (right next door to M&Ms world
), and it was an excellent base for our trip.
We went in March and the weather topped 17 degrees C on our first day and sunny, dropping to around 12 - 15 for the next two and on the final day of our stay it was drizzly rain and about 8 degrees.
We did everything, including climbing to the crown in the Statue of Liberty (which had to be booked 6 months in advance), Ellis Island, Empire State, the whispering gallery at Grand Central Station, shopping on 5th Avenue, horse and cart around Central Park and we even took in a Broadway show. It was such a fabulous break and I would go again in a heartbeat.
The total cost for three of us including the trips (and subway passes) was approx £2000 for three full days (and a half day).
We also arranged for a transfer via Virgin, but if you are brave I am sure you could do it on the subway.Starting weight 17st 4lb - weight now 15st 2lbs
