Cleaning before cleaning lady comes?

I work full-time running a business, wife works part-time and runs her own business. So we decided to get a cleaner.

Trouble is now wife cleans house before the cleaner gets here, and gives me grief to clean as well. I thought the idea of getting the cleaner was to be less stress for us having to clean but its actually more pressure !!!!

I dont understand my wifes thinking but she says she doesnt want the cleaner to see a messy house and talk about her. OMG - its the cleaners job to clean it !!!

Any comments?

Do we really need to tell you that a frank and open discussion with your other half is required, as opposed to posting here....?

Does your wife clean or tidy? There's a difference.

We have a cleaner - we tidy before the cleaner comes because their job is to hoover, dust, clean bathrooms etc. Not to have to tidy away our stuff in order to be able to get to the surfaces that need cleaning.

If your wife is getting the Mr Muscle out and cleaning the kitchen worktops then yes, that defeats the purpose of having a cleaner.

I also think I want the cleaner to clean, not pick up after the children etc.

agreed! A tidy is fine but if she's cleaning - then you might as well not be paying the cleaner!!

I used to clean in private homes and agree, no need be cleaning, washing pots etc, that's what you're paying for but a quick tidy round is fine (and would be much appreciated, I had one male client who left dirty underwear on the toilet lid! not nice but had to be moved to clean the loo!!) Also, any decent cleaner, who you're trusting in your home, should respect your privacy and not discuss anything about you or your home with anyone. If they did, get rid!
  • Just wondered if anyone else had the same opinion as my Mrs? i.e. cant leave it too dirty for the cleaner
  • Do you really think your house is worse than anything else the cleaner has seen?

Anyway, if your wife cleans the kitchen, the gossip will be See that Mrs Foel, they must live on take-away, that oven's not been used from one week to the next, thinks she's too good to cook that one does, it's the hubby I feel sorry for, needs a decent meal inside him

The point of having a cleaner is so you can casually say on the way out, "I'm sorry about the asparagus stains on the bedroom ceiling Mrs Overall, we had the Archbishop and Status Quo round for dinner on Tuesday and it all got a bit wild, I'm sure it'll come out with Flash, will an extra £10 sort it, I've left your money under the teapot..." and know it will be all round the neighbourhood by teatime.
A kind word lasts a minute, a skelped erse is sair for a day.

It's very tempting to clean before someone comes to err, clean. I suspect lots of people do it. I used to do cleaning myself and sometimes it was so clean I wondered if I was needed. However like many cleaners, I always drew the line at ovens. They would have had to pay me a lot extra!

When I was a kid we had a cleaner and my mum did exactly the same thing it puzzles me and I think they just dont want the cleaner to see the house a bit messy, sure its there job but your missus is probably just house proud and does not want the cleaner to think that you live in a messy house.

You probably best just leaving her to it
