Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Tuesday 16th August. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!
As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.
When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.
Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.
Good Morning x
Awake again at a stupid time but snuggled in with my doggies so all is well.
Congratulations to Camelot on Amelie Constance.
I have a busy day today and am out for most of it as I have appointments in Leicester and Northampton. In between Im popping into Lakeland as i have a list of "bits" that "need" to be got.... Ummmmm:eek::eek::eek:
I will catch up with you all later in the day and i hope it is a good one. Good luck to all those in Scotland who are back to school or who are gearing up for it. I dont know if it's the same for Ireland?
I have noticed that autumn is just around the corner now. The nip is in the air and the conker trees are shedding their leaves and the acorns are developing. Hugs x

I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over and through me. When it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.
When the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain.

Morning Molly & all who cross/follow
My car's on the blink, the ignition key won't turn, so hubbys & his packup have gone to the station by bus.
Congratulations to Camelot on Amelie Constance.
Molly, I hope your appointments go well
I had a bad nights sleep last night, I woke up around midninght in a panic because I couldn't find my drop spindle, now this isn't really surprising as I don't actually own a drop spindle, though I did have a go with one at the Roman Palace at Fishbourne. It was 4am before I dropped off again. I'm probably stressed about the car as it will be a struggle to pay for it as I've only jus taxed it, the insurance is due (£196 is the cheapest I can find) & I need a new tyre.
My daughter is visiting later, I have a cottage pie for her in the fridge as I made 4 yesterday.
Have a good day everyone.
Hugs Hester

Just a thought Hester but have you locked your steering accidentally? Also if its on a fob has the battery in the fob died? I know I always expect the worst and a couple of times it has been so simple. I will ask Kids Dad when he wakes up! I know how you feel though as our big family car is slowly dying so Im always super anxious every time it makes a strange new noise xI must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer.

Hi Molly
Thanks for the suggestion, I haven't locked the steering this time, though I have done it before. I've spoken to DS & he thinks I need a new barrel, I'm going to ring one of his friends later to get an approximate cost.

Morning all,
Up at 5 am to pack DH's lunch of corned beef sarnies, hm c&o tart, and banana, have made enough for the plasterer too, he picked up DH at 7am. to get an early start on DD1's bathroom.
DH wanted to buy the tiles y/day, so after an hours drive we arrived at Topps Tiles only to discover that DH had left the measurements at home . Didn't want a wasted trip so we went to Wilkos and stocked up with a load of bargains, xmas/birthday pressies etc. Popped into Matalan and got DGD1 a beding set in a bag, the material was cup cakes, v. pretty, I'm collecting things for her as she is off to uni next month and needs kitting out as she will be living in halls.
BM & WM on, need to do banking/bills today. Going to make an apple cake with my friend's apples, and chicken carbanara for dinner.
Need to takle the ironing pile, I'll do it while 60 min makeover is on so I'll make myself to do an hours ironing.
Feeling a bit better today, thank you for all the good wishes sent my way. what a great bunch you are. :A
Welcome MAITY

CAMELOT congrats on the new baby:j:j:j
I'm a bit worried guys, as OHs Sis' wedding do over here is on 3rd Sept, and DD is due on the 30th so I might have to have Boo:(:(There is noone esle to have her but i'm not sure kids are allowed[STRIKE]prob not[/STRIKE], and OH doesn't want to go on his own:(
SOTD true to form has fallen out with her bfs parents:mad::mad:Although they have never looked after Boo anyway. My mum is on hols as is Boo's Dad so if the baby comes then she is my priority:o:o
If I take her I know she will be tired and kick off, but not sure what to do:(:(I feel like taking her then we have an excuse to come home early, even though it's a one hour drive:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:"You can't stop the waves, but you can learn to surf"

Morning everyone
Dry, bright and sunny here this morning. DH up and off to work at stupid early o'clock. Had awful night - went to bed at 11.30pm - couldn't sleep so got up again at 1am, stayed up with a hot drink and the tv until 2am, then went back to bed, tossed and turned but eventually did get off to sleep only to wake when DH got up to go to work at 4.30am, did then go back to sleep until 6.30am when I got up. No doubt I will feel c**p later - haven't had a sleepless night for ages, I do have a few things on my mind right now so that could be the cause. Big car went went wrong yesterday and is now in the garage, should be mended either later today or tomorrow but we'll be £500 worse off - not what I'd budgeted for the week leading up to our holiday! Looking on the brighter side at least it can be mended and we should still be able to get away.
Dinner last night was fish, chips/jacket potatoto, beans/veg. Tonight will be egg, bacon, sausage etc, not really in the mood to cook at the moment - that's unusual for me, as I get a great deal of pleasure from cooking, even just the normal dinners. Mood seems to have dipped over the last few days so trying to stay positive don't particularly want to slip back and have to go back on the meds. Think I'm more than ready for my holiday - just have a full day today and half day tomorrow then will be off for some annual leave - think I may be more ready for that than I realise.
Work was very busy yesterday, had the busiest Monday we have had for 2-3 weeks and it was just non-stop, I think today may be quieter. Managed to get the boys bedding washed before I went to work yesterday and nicely line dry by the time I came home so their beds are ready to be made back up for when they get back tomorrow.
Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

Morning all
Lovely start here but there's definitely a nip in the air. Today is my lovely Dad's 80th birthday, so lucky to still have him, 6 months ago I thought he was going to die he was so ill.
Not much OS going on today as we're going out for lunch. Also need to get all my stuff sorted for a training day at an agency I've signed up with. Am hoping to go back to work next week and hand my notice in if all goes well.
CAMELOT aww congratulations, lovely name.
Big hugs to anyone who needs one today, off to walk giant dog, wasn't impressed when he got on the bed in the middle of the night! Have a good day all.

Morning all.
Day off today, but I was woken by the smoke alarm in our bedroom going off at 7 this morning, blimey thats loud, have taken it down, and will replace the battery and put it back later.
Candy :eek::eek:, what you doing up so early, I would explain to your sil that you may have to bring Boo with you, its up to her then xx
Camelot awwwww how lovely a new baby, beautiful name, and a good weight, congrats to all xx
Bethebee, dont know if it will help, but we have just ordered some tiles online, they arrived within 2 days, delivered to my door.
Beautiful day here, a good breeze, have got the first of 2 washes on the go, will get them hung out.
OH tried his hand at plastering last night in the bathroom :T I must say he has done a brilliant job, so good infact that I have asked him to do the rest tonight, I went out yesterday and bought special bathroom paint £25 , but I dont like the colour
, its too bright for a small room, totally my fault, so I think I will have to bite the bullet and buy another tin,
Dinner tonight will be gammon, in out local discount shop they had packets of 'end bits' for £1.29, there is a huge amount in there, enough for at least four meals, will cook it all tonight and freeze some, will have it with wedges and veg tonight.
DD is starting to panic now about her exam results, she picks them up next week, bless her, its a stressful time for them all waiting.
Anniestar hope you are ok xxxx
Thanks for the suggestions re dads Birthday, he would not be able to concentrate on an audio book, but a nice cd is a great idea :T, I bought him some special diabetic chocs at Hotel Chocolate, cost a fortune, but its delicious, and the girl in the shop was so lovely, kept giving dd and I samples
OK better get on, have good days all xx0 -
Morning everyone,
Congratulations Camelot
Lou Hugs. My thoughts are with you.
I have all my children home now (and their washing!). We are going to spend a couple of days with my parents in Walsall, the children are really excited as they get to go and spend an afternoon on their allotment and harvest lots of vegetables.
When we get home I am determined to start clearing up the house, why is it constantly a tip?
Have a lovely day everyone.:)0 -
Had a odd dream that I could hear a man just saying "Fizz" over and over, then woke up and could still hear it! Looked out of the window and it was a flipping magpie in the tree outside making the most human sounding caw i've ever heard.
Off shopping and more tidying today - have a great day everyone x0
