Holyhead to Dublin by Ferry

Can anyone give me advice, we are going to a caravan in Anglesey next week and wanted to take family over to Dublin by Ferry for the first time (2 adults & 2 kids ages 9 & 10) I priced it up to go around 10am on Wednesday 24th and a 9.15pm Ferry back and it quoted £180! Surely there is a cheaper way to spend the day in Dublin, we can go any day next week, but we can't stay the night because we are leaving our dog with a neighbour at the caravan caravan site. Also what is the best thing to visit with kids ages 9 & 10 years, we want to do the tour bus and maybe visit the cells. any advise please?

We've stayed in Snowdonia a couple of times and gone on a day trip to Dublin. Each time we've taken the car. If you go as a foot passenger, Dun Laoghaire train station is right by the docks with trains to Dublin city centre. We went on the HSS service in both directions.

Yes, we've gone from Holyhead to Dun Laoghaire as foot passengers and got the DART train in to the centre of Dublin for the day and then back in the past - it's very easily doable and I think works out cheaper than going direct to Dublin.
  • Brilliant advice, thank you all so much.
