Are all maps unlocked and ready to use, or is an unlock code required (at extra cost) to get access to them?
Would appreciate some clarification on this, as am urgently looking for a ceap Satnav which I can use in France and the UK. Don't mind having to swap memory cards or get a bigger one, but don't want to pay for mapping on a country by country basis.
Thanks a lot, Rob
Yes ! I confirm that Garmin are sending out DVDs for the whole of Europe. However getting the whole of Western Europe onto a 1GB transflash is a tight squeeze, I had to delete Scicily to fit it all on;-)
Quite a few hoops to go through to get it all registered and loaded though...
1GB is the max size of card supported.

Garmin told me that I should get a 2gb card for the i3, he said that s the price isnt much difference why compared with a 1gb card a 2gb would be better
I have however heard problems with 2gb cards being slow on the i3.fladda wrote:Yes ! I confirm that Garmin are sending out DVDs for the whole of Europe. However getting the whole of Western Europe onto a 1GB transflash is a tight squeeze, I had to delete Scicily to fit it all on;-)

I found out the hard way ... I registered mine when I bought it in June last year.
Got the DVD in the post, but was asked for an unlock code when I tried to install it ... approx £40
I emailed Garmin hoping I could blag a free unlock code, but got no joy.Thank you for contacting Garmin Europe.
I am afraid if you registered your unit before the 1st of September 2006 you will need to pay a fee of $75, (approx £40) for this code. If you registered after this date, the update to version 9 will be free.
But what I did find out is that you are allowed to share the maps with 1 other garmin device "you own" ... I emailed the garmin employee who had responded to my initial email, asking if I was allowed to share the maps with my brother in law (who also has an i3) meaning I could split the cost of the maps. He replied saying yes .. I was allowed to do that !
Luckily, my bruv-in-law didn't register his i3, so the plan is for him to get the free upgrade and share it with me ... fingers crossed.
So ... all you people with free upgrades to V9 ... you could be kind and share them with someone else with an i3 ... I'm sure there'd be a pint or three in it for you!!!0
