Good: Climbing beans, tomatoes (all types) :T
Bad: Beetroot (pathetic), chillis, sweet basil, courgettes (great flowers, withered fruit)September Grocery Challenge £157.79/£300 for 4 of us

Good: apple, plum & damsons, salad leaves, strawbs, blueberry.
Bad: Runners (snails), toms (weather), maincrop peas (snails)
Terrible: outdoor cucumbers
Everything else is pretty average, but waiting on the sweetcorn and winter squash for final decision.0 -
I have loads of tomatoes but not one looking anywhere near ripening yet.
Good: Mixed salad leaves. 1st crop of radishes. The few potatoes I planted in the garden. Raspberries and strawberries. Artichokes.Broad beans.
Bad: 2nd crop of radishes (bolted with only wee bulb on end). Courgettes....last year we were giving away bags of them, this year I have had about 6 small ones!! And that's between 4 plants! Potatoes on the allotment (early ones) just lots of wee spuds. Had just a few decent beetroot, so must plant more.
One row of my peas germinated...the other row gave me no plants at all!Father Ted: Now concentrate this time, Dougal. These
(he points to some plastic cows on the table) are very small; those (pointing at some cows out of the window) are far away...:D:D

Good:
Potatoes, beans (broad, french, runner), beetroot, lettuce, onions, wild strawberries, Bramley apples look promising, parsnips, butternut squash, leeks looking good, carrots, mint, flat leaf parsley, rhubarb
Bad:
Courgettes, strawberries, raspberries, plums, tomatoes a disaster *sob*, gooseberries0 -
:DGood: Broad beans, mange tout, potatoes, garlic (saved them from allium rot in time thankfully), cabbages, chard, courgettes, celery, beetroot, spring onions, sweetcorn (although lost the first five decent cobs to badgers), peaches, herbs, turnips, aubergines, cucumbers, carrots (grew them in large containers = first ever straight carrots!)
:(Bad: Runner beans (produced loads - just don't like the variety), strawbs/currants - all got eaten before they ripened by the birds, shallots - got allium rot, leeks (look like they are getting allium rust), tomatoes, chillis in greenhouse, pak choi, salads got infested with flea beetle, tomatillos haven't produced yet, winter squash - they are tiddly plants still after 3 months of growing!
On the plus side, all the "landscaping" has been done this year on our allotment plot we took on last summer so next year will be just about planting :TThanks to MSE, I am mortgage free!

Good: Courgette, kale (except for the caterpillar attack that stripped one trough completely bare), cauliflower, lettuce, rosemary, oregano, mint, fennel, peas, onions, thyme, spring onions.
Bad: Broccoli (just didn't grow), strawberries (whitefly and woodlice infestation), garlic (died before fully grown but did only plant one so just bad luck I think), rocket, spinach, basil, coriander, oregano (these last 5 bolted almost immediately, before I could harvest any).
Not yet ready but looking promising: chillies, parsnips, cabbages.
First time gardener (and newly created veg patch) so overall feel quite pleased and can't wait to try again next year.0 -
Good - Peas, onions, broad beans, carrots, mixed salad leaves, courgettes, petit-pain, plums, apples, soft fruit, turkeys, ducks and chickens.
Bad - Potatoes and tomatoes - blight struck in late June. Sweet corn - only 2' high now and looking poorly.0 -
= Rhubarb, courgettes, pumpkins, leeks and herbs
= Butternut Squashes, lettuce and the tomatoes have been a big (nay, huge!) dispointment this year.

In the NW area
Fantastic - the onions; courgettes planted in the garden; different types of lettuces; mint
Good - peas (planted more this year, but ate less, due to the badger getting there 1st); cabbages; tomatoes in grown in g/house: blue berries grown in tubs; beetroot
Disappointing - the potatoes; courgettes planted on the allotment; gooseberries (but let the weeds grow round them); broad beans; garlic
Still waiting - outdoor tomatoes; cauliflower; aubergine; sweetcorn; runner beans; outdoor cues; french beans; chilli's; leeks0 -
In West Yorkshire - This is my first ever go. I have small patch in back garden and lots of boxes from machine tool parts at work!
Fantastic - the onions; courgettes planted in the garden They are massive! ; different types of lettuces - all brilliant - shared 50/50 with slugs. Strawberries like wild fire, and so so juicy - if you can get their before my 6-year-old.
Good - peas; tomatoes in grown in g/house / beetroot Rocket / potatoes / carrots in tubs.
Disappointing - ; broad beans; garlic - all look like single cloves is that right?
Still waiting - outdoor tomatoes; cauliflower; sprouts; chillis.
General question. Does anyone in the North successfully grow peppers or chillis in a grow bag outside? Is it just too cold as mine are all not good looking?I am firmly across the line. I won't impose my values on you if you keep away from mine.
