How much deposit did you have (%?)

  • If/once the house sells we will be putting a 40% deposit on the new house, this is abroad though so the house prices are cheaper :)
  • Wow thats good. Yeh we are kind of hoping for a new build and at the moment most 2 bed new builds in the area we want are going from 98k-108k so trying to get a deposit within that. Have noticed Clydesdale doing 5% for first time buyers atm so could hopefully fall back on that - presume this would require some major credit rating or something though? (Neither of us have negative credit although :))

It's technically a new build but from '97 so not that new! Why are you so keen to get a new build though? There are a lot of decent older terraces in Gtr Mcr for that money, poss semis's a swell.

Forgot the credit rating on a 5% deposit, the interest rate would be sky high. Unlikely that house prices are going up any time soon. Keep on saving!

I've got 25% so far, hoping to have 30 - 35% by the time I buy next near. I live in an expensive area and don't want to borrow a silly amount so I need a good £70-80 on top of a mortgage to get anything decent.
  • Saw a mortgage advisor the other day, thinking we were going to put around 12% down, but the difference between 10 and 15% was huge in terms of interest and payments, so we are going to ensure we put 15% down now.

15% deposit (about £27k). The rest of my savings I kept for legal costs, mortgage costs, moving expenses, furniture, plus an emergency fund.

We're looking at 10% - just can't handle waiting any longer. Not getting any younger and want to get on with a family etc.
saving up another deposit as we've lost all our equity.
We're 29% of the way there...
  • My first flat I put down 5% (£3.5k roughly) in 2001 - for my move up the ladder last year I put down 40% (£80K) £75K was equity from my flat. It cost me £12K to move: £5k addtional deposit, £2.5K carpets/flooring, £2k stamp duty, £2kish EA comm & the rest moving costs.
