Selling a mobile on eBay vs Mazuma etc
Hello,
I was just hoping for a some quick advice really, I have had a look through this forum, but still have a few questions.
I have an HTC Desire phone, just had an upgrade so wasnt to get rid of it and make some cash.
It has a bit of delamination on the back, but no scratches, been quoted £130 on most of these sites, but I am guessing thats for something in 100% condition?
I am slightly put off by previous experience on eBay, so wanted to avoid that at all costs, but would do it if it turns out these companies would only offer a smaller sum.
Any advice?

What 'previous experience'?
I am pretty sure that you can get a better price on e-bay, but their 13.5% total fees are a day time robbery.0 -
I sold an old Blackberry on ebay that I had for a few years, wasnt on a contract or anything, anyway to cut a long story short the guy I sold it to tried to claim it was stolen and wanted a refund etc. It was a scam to get me to refund on PayPal and not send the phone back, thretened me with the Police etc.
It all went away in the end, but it was a pain to sort out.
Ebay were actually really good about it.

Yes, avoid selling phones on ebay at all costs. It attacks the crooks and the worst sort of complaining buyers out there. Chargebacks are rife, people trying to return a duplicate non working phone to the one that you sold them etc.
The listing fees, final value fees, the paypal fees and the fact that if you charge a penny over the exact postage (forget the cost of the jiffy bag, packaging, printing label etc. and a trip to the post office) will result in a neg, means that about 15% is taken by ebay and then you have to factor in the risk factor of losing your money.
Have you looked at what CEX is offering for your phone?0 -
Used Mazuma for disposing of my last 2 mobiles. They pay what the site quotes as long as the phone is working. Scratches and cosmetic damage dont have any impact.
You may get more on ebay, but its not worth the hassle.
Mazuma 10/100 -
I have an Orange San Francisco which I paid £100 for a few months ago. They sell for £60 to £70 on Ebay. I thought I'd look it up on Mazuma and they will pay £8. Yes, just eight pounds.
I agree about Ebay's fees being expensive and I see there are risks there.
What about Ebid or a local sale through Gumtree, are these any better?0 -
Ebay- Watch a few desires and see the average price they end at. Factor in the cost of listing and paying by paypal and see what price you get.
Compare that price to the price of sending it to a company such as Mazuma and see how much (if) the price varies. If going by ebay gets you the most cash then decide if the extra effort is worth it.
But DO NOT and I mean DO NOT use mobilephonexchange.co.uk
You just need to look for threads about the company on the website to see the bad feedback they get. (Unfortunatly I forgot to do this before I sent my desire away recently).
Look for feedback any any recycling company on this site before you send your phone away:j.0 -
Fonebank are decent, give a price and tell you what the handset realistically has to have / not have to get that price - unlike some others (always check the reviews). I sent in a Desire around 2 months ago which had some small marks on the casing and a very small chip out of the charger port, from memory got about £130 for it which was the full price quoted0
