Google Buy Motorola
Options
"Internet giant Google has announced a deal to buy Motorola Mobility for $12.5bn (£7.7bn).
A joint statement said the boards of both companies had unanimously approved the deal, which should be completed by the end of this year, or early in 2012.
Earlier this year, Motorola split into two separate companies.
Mobility develops and manufactures mobile phones, while Motorola Solutions covers wider technologies for corporate customers and governments."

Will Microsoft buy Nokia now? - will anyone buy Windows phones? !!!!!
Hopefully Google/Motorola will produce some good models to beat iphone.0 -
If Google can do for Motorola's reputation what VW did for Skoda's, then that will be a good thing for Moto. But it will be an uphill struggle, I fear.
It is amazing how quickly a company can go from top to nowhere. Remember when the first RAZR was the bees knees? Then their fall from grace was so rapid.
Samsung and HTC have a pretty good lead in the Android market, Google's original phone - Nexus - is not a market leader, so the jury is out on whether or not this was a good move,
So VW - Skoda or Lloyds - Halifax. We wait and see !0 -
I know Android is already doing well, just think with a hardware maker like Motorola, it could go that step further.
Motorola is still doing business in the US market (phones and tablets)

Google is paying for the Moto the patents that Moto own - in order to stop the court cases for patent infringement.
BMW and Reliant Robin - a match made in heaven!
Just imagine it - go on .... I dare you.0 -

This seems to be the main reason rather than to have their own Android hardware. The litigation between the big players is verging on the ridiculous, so maybe this will go a small way to curbing some of this.
What I found bizarre was the head honchos at HTC, Samsung and Sony, were all asked by Google to comment on the purchase and all released statements about how they thought it was good for the Android ecosystem, or words to that effect.
I'm sure internally, they're not quite as pleased, in particular Samsung, who probably thought they would make the next flagship Google device. That seems unlikely now.0 -
To beat apple.. they must become apple..
Looks like Google are on their way to doing that.. regardless of what was said in that press release.. I'll bet they'll be hiring the best product designers they can to produce a new handset that is as aesthetically pleasing as the iPhone.
Google just spent $12.5bn.. they need to make that cash back somehow!:exclamatiTo the internet.. I need to complain about something!0
