In addition to the others suggested here, I use Flickr for all my photo backups. I can't remember the membership fee - there is a free one, but I have loads of photos, so paid for a three year membership.
I upload the photos I want, and you can make them private so that only you, or your friends, or family can see them - for example, the photos of my two girls are available to my family and friends, photos of local landscapes etc. are available to everyone.
That way, the need to back up is out of my hands - they do it for me, and it's another thing off my mind.

Getting a bit worried as we cant check whats on the external hardrive yet, we found they had left it behind. Shes brought it home but I only have win98 and its for I think win98se onwards so we cant connect it to see on here. Whatever is on that will be on the laptop they took but I'm getting more and more worried in case there are copies on there of her birth certificate, driving license, car insurance, council tax exemption certificate, job applications, uni certificates from when she was at uni before this one, receipts for lots of stuff scanned when applying for access to learning fund and the NHS Grants applications, lots f personal data... letters for buisiness and personal. They will have so much information about her.
Shes got lots of pictures on there too. We will have to speak to the police about this coz I'm worried about identity fraud as the people that did this were very very heavy handed and left my daughters door to her room looking like the opening of a cave with all the brickwork and frame ripped out around it, nothing would have stopped them. They took some kind of tool so they could do that.
Maybe I'm just worrying too much but she had problems about a year ago when breaking up with an extremely controlling ex bf in the special services. She had to have police help with it, she was actually in fear of her life and it wouldnt be impossible that he could have some kind of revenge involvement in this. The last we heard he was warned at work. Since then things went quiet as he would have been in serious trouble with them and could have been thrown out if it didnt stop. He did send her some carefully written mails a while ago though that she did not respond to. I think we should mention it to the police anyway just in case, nothing would surprise me from that personThanx
