UK TV Licence? Loophole?

If you use your PC to watch live broadcasts (over the internet or via a built in antenna) then you have to buy a TV license. However if you only watch programs on BBC Iplayer then you do not, though this is something the BBC are reviewing. Bear in mind that in the event of the tv detection people come around you have to prove that you are not watching live television broadcasts.
They have to prove that you ARE watching live broadcasts, and you are under no obligation to let them enter your home without a warrant and a police officer present, despite what they will tell you. They need to prove that you are breaking the law to get said warrant to enter your home, and they need to enter your home to prove that you are watching live broadcasts. If they come round, just tell them to pi$$ off, I have before.100% G33K

Again you would have to prove this to the tv detector people if they ever came around and you have to notify the tv licensing body that you're doing this.
That's incorrect.
It is up to them to prove their case, not for you to prove your innocence.
Likewise, you don't have to notify them of anything.0 -

I would echo the advice not to even let them over the doorstep.
I have a TV License but as a result of my house being re-postcoded sometime in the 1980's I still get regular correspondence and visits (reference to the old postcode) from Capita so there is no point informing them of anything if their own employees can't do it.
My answers to the guys that call consists of something along the following
1. No I can't confirm my name
2. Yes I am aware you need a TV license to watch live TV
3. I already have a TV license
4. No you can't see my license
5. Suggest he go to the Post Office for help in finding the address he's looking for.
Be very wary about letting these guys in if your not 100% sure that there is no way to recieve a broadcast on your TV i.e. TV is completely detuned and unable to be connected to an antenna.
There have be reports (maybe urban myth) that Capita employees touching/connecting a wire to the TV to demonstrate reception of a live broadcast. Safer not to let them in at all.0 -

Mine go along the lines of:-
THEM: "Mr Bedsit"?
ME: "Who's asking"?
THEM: "Are you Mr Bedsit"?
ME: "Who's asking"?
THEM: "TV Licensing" (flashing his ID Card)
ME: "GOODBYE" (closing the window). There have be reports (maybe urban myth) that Capita employees touching/connecting a wire to the TV to demonstrate reception of a live broadcast.
Not an urban myth. It has happened.
Not possible on Digital though.0
