  • Hi I had it with my 1st and I agree that acupuncture was fab. I used to have 3 needles in the top of the public area and 2 in the lower back. A quick twist (only took a few minutes, didn't hurt and really worked).
This pregnancy I haven't really had it (but this has been a problem pregnancy). I haven't put on much weight so I think that is a factor but very early on I had a sore cocyx and I found a good massage of it from husband really helped.
Do remember though that it does go when the baby is born - the joys of pregnancy!

We moved house when I was 35 weeks pregnant and I have never felt so helpless and useless. I wasn't able to do much at all. For a normally active person, this time of my life was horrendous.

Ditto. I'm really active too and I just couldn't believe how useless I felt. Other people's reactions didn't help either as I think if you've not had this you really have no idea of how terrible it is

I am unsure whether I can have another baby. I'd love one, but if I get the SPD again, along with looking after my boy, I just don't know what I'd do. So it would certainly not be until he was at nursery/school.

We're having the exact same dilemma. We'd love another but there is just no way I can see that I could safely care for the one we've got

I find that you get so many people claiming they have SPD, yet at the same time say they've been shopping at the weekend or done the hoovering. I think this is the reason SPD is not taken as seriously as it should be.

You have my every sympathy hun.

DO remember - it IS worth it for the beautiful baby you get at the end of it

OP - I'm so sorry you're going through this but honestly it will get better! Things I found helpful were tying my legs together to sleep, and spending many hundreds of pounds on a chiropractor. He wasn't cheap, but he was brilliant.

The day my wheelchair came I cried and cried and cried. I felt so embarrased to be seen on it and just couldn't believe what was happening to me. It did give me a degree of independance tough.

Good luck with it. Its such a clique but just you wait til you hold your beautiful baby in your arms for the first time, all this will be forgotten.

  • Hi
I too had SPD from a early stage, started around 12 weeks and by 16 weeks I couldn't get out of bed without help. I was fortunate that my GP was very helpful and was also a fully qualified homeopath and was able to keep me going till 28 weeks before I had to resort to crutches.
I also found a chiropractor who used the McTimothy Method whihc I believe is the only one allowed in pregnancy ( or it was 7 years ago) and he was great.
The combination of homopathey and chiropractic was what kept me going for so long.
As someone else said, it virtually went overnight in my case once I had my daughter
Hang in there it is worth it!

  • As posted earlier I had it with DD2. She was 8lb 8oz when she was born but has always been off the scale height and weight wise , although both in proportion. She is now 11 and is taller than her 15 year old sister , and wears adult sized clothes - she is not overweight though - just wondered if anyone else who suffered SPD went on to have a taller than average child ?
