Has anyone ever had severe SPD in pregnancy ?

I had it with my 2 and was told if I had another child I'd be in a wheelchair, so i stopped with 2. Lol
With ds2 I could barely walk, let alone keep up with a hyper 4 yr old so I put a harness on him & clipped an extending dog lead, so he couldnt run off.
I gave up on baths at the end & just made do with strip washing.
I still get twinges, 11 years later, if I do anything to jar my hips. Remind me not to demonstrate leap-frogging again >@ Or in the gym, I cant use this machine where you have to squeeze your thighs together or open them. Way too hurty!!!Noli nothis permittere te terere

Ive barely been out of the house in 3 months.. I cant even get in the car without a lot of help.. I havent had a shower or bath in maybe 3-4 months apart from when at OHs mums.. but a 2 hours drive for a shower is extreme! I do wash.. honest! lol.
I was told the physio could speak to the consultant about different pain medication so you wouldnt have to see the GP.. but I never got as far as a physio appointment.. I have nothing.. I am taking twice as many cocodamol as the box recommends and it isnt making the slightest bit of difference.. though I absolutely do not recommend this, I just feel like I have no alternative. I cant remember the last decent nights sleep I had.. I am overly emotional, overly tired and stroppy beyond belief! I just want this baby out and I want it out right now..
Ibuprofen is fine in all but the last 3 months of pregnancy so it fine for now.
I also have a hip dysplasia and arthritis in my hips and legs.. so I am used to a fair amount of pain but this hurts to breathe. I ended up with kidney failure with my last pregnancy possibly because of the SPD as I couldnt sit on the loo to pee properly I got an infection which led to kidney failure and by the time the stupid people at the hospital listened my liver was working at 30% as well... a few more days I would have robably been dead.
but you have mentioned before doing DIY or moving stuff in your kids room? I'm sure you said you'd been doing something like that and I felt sorry for you cos I'm sure it won't do your SPD any good?
Anyway OP, there is no quick fix for it
just try think of the positive at the end of it. Everytime I had a pain I told myself it was the baby reminding me he was still there:rotfl: :j:jOur gorgeous baby boy born 2nd May 2011 - 12 days overdue!!:j:j0 -
i suffer from inflamed sacroiliac joint (which is very similar to SPD pain, but its where the pelvis joins the bottom of your spine so the pain is in the back rather than the front) i was only keeping it under control before the pregnancy with tramadol, diazepam, diclofenic and codeine depending on the pain level of that day. I couldnt walk, sit, stand, bend or anything without being in absolute agony.
this pregnancy has further agrivated it as im not allowed any of those wonderful drugs and my doc and consultant will only allow me paracetamol and codeine that i can get over the counter which does absolutly nothing for me.
what ive found that has helped is seeing a phisio for a maternity belt as the belt puts constant pressure on my back where i need it and helps to releive some of the pain, also seeing an osteopath on a 2 x a week basis is doing wonders. the phisio saw me once, gave me a couple of exercises to do and the belt and that was it, told me to come back if it got any worse. she didnt realise but she was seeing me at my worst and despite me telling her she hasnt really bothered. so i upped my sessions at the osteopath and they are what has got me back to work. im almost 22 weeks now and was signed off from week 15 - week 21 my the doc and he was willing to continue to sign me off till i can go on maternity leave. work have let me go back part time up until i go on maternity leave so they know im trying

Some people exaggerate the truth
OP - I had bad SPD with my first baby. Started at around 24 weeks and was agony. I ended up spending most of my days in a nursing chair. I bought that because I could not get off our low couch.
I could not go shopping, load or unload the dishwasher, hoover etc etc. Basically anything that required weight baring.
It was awful getting in and out of the car.
We moved house when I was 35 weeks pregnant and I have never felt so helpless and useless. I wasn't able to do much at all. For a normally active person, this time of my life was horrendous.
It turned out I was expecting a big baby - 11lb - so I think that probably was the cause of my pain. I still get odd pains now. Though my back, shoulder and neck are excruciating now, so still in agony but in a different part of my body.
I agree that there is no help from doctors. Physio helps somewhat, but I was always putting out what they'd put back again. I did find the strengthening exercises helped a bit though.
I am unsure whether I can have another baby. I'd love one, but if I get the SPD again, along with looking after my boy, I just don't know what I'd do. So it would certainly not be until he was at nursery/school.
I find that you get so many people claiming they have SPD, yet at the same time say they've been shopping at the weekend or done the hoovering. I think this is the reason SPD is not taken as seriously as it should be.
You have my every sympathy hun.
DO remember - it IS worth it for the beautiful baby you get at the end of it :cool:0 -

Im not supposed to even lift the baby, or the kettle or pans of food, Im not supposed to do any housework or anything at al but sit and get fat apparenty.. it just isnt feasible.. but some things have to be done otherwise life grinds to a halt and I cant do that. How can I not do washing or cook for the children or chase the baby? As a parent you cant you have no choice but to carry on as much as you can.. whatever the cost noone will do it for me.
It usually means I am unable to do anything for days after.. doing stuff doesnt come without a price..LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
I had SPD with all of my 5 pregnancies, bad enough to have to give up work. It doesn't go away after the birth either - the pain continues for many months afterwards.
Do yourself a favour - ditch the drugs and go and get some acupuncture. If it is bad as you say, you've nothing to lose. I tried it with my fourth pregnancy and it stopped the pain completely after 4 visits. It was my miracle cure. My consultant referred me at 16 weeks and I was amazed at the results.
Edit: Aso - a pillow lengthways in the bed - bring your knee up to it and support your tummy - it makes lying down a little bearable."One day I realised that when you are lying in your grave, it's no good saying, "I was too shy, too frightened."
Because by then you've blown your chances. That's it."0 -

I bet I could give that a pretty good go

If only it was that easy.
They do some but they cant do the cooking or the cleaning and I cant sit still I have ants in my pants lol. Plus I am so pigheaded I refuse to ask Id rather do it myself so I know stuff is done and done properly.
I really stuffed my pelvis with Squeak fitting carpets.. none of them could have done that.. they really couldnt OH tried..
OH does the majority of lifting and shifting and the beasts argue over who is going to vacuum they have their own jobs but I wouldnt let them loose with a bottle of bleach and a scrubbing brush in the bathroom.. but it has to be done!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
