Spanish Grand Prix 2012 - Cost saving tips needed

Looking to head over to Spain for the GP in May next year.

Has anyone been, or looking to go in May, that can offer any money saving tips?

ATM, I'm looking at flights from Newcastle - Barca, with car hire, and possible BnBs

Between 2 and 6 people (1-3 couples going!)

TIA
Dave

You can buy tickets cheaper in Oct (I think), details are on the curcuit website.

My understanding (not yet been) is that driving is much like a lot of other curcuits - a pain. There is a train/bus to nearby, again details on the curcuit website.

Went a couple of years ago (Barcelona) - hotels were around 4 times their normal rates for the Thursday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. We stayed in the City centre as we took the 'girls' with us and they went shopping. Transport out to the circuit was easy and there was a free train service from airport > city centre (slightly difficult to find place handing out free tickets) as, at the time Barca were promoting visits and encouraging visitors.

    Bump!

    a question to the fellow F1 go'ers

Would I save much if I booked a package holiday/mini break, rather than booking a flight and accommodation separate?

Can anyone recommend anywhere nice, within an hour (ish) of the Spanish F1 Circuit
  • Cant remember the exact name of the place but up by the Ill Fantasia water park you should be able to find some good accomodation.. only about 30 mins by train from Barca itself.. plus you can have fun there after the pre qualifying.. nice little park

any hotel within a reasonable 1-2 hour drive will have figured out if the GP has an impact on theirdemand and priced accordingly.

all you can do is compare offers, realistically and decide what works for you

driving to the circuit will be a nightmare

you can easily get a train to montmelo then walk - much easier - there was also a bus available but that was stuck in the traffic as well

I've heard people say there is transport to/from the circuit.. If we stay in Barca, and dont hire a car, where abouts in the city can we pick this up from? Car hire was only £25 a day? How does this compare to public transport to/from the circuit?

For details of the curcuit google "curcuit catalunya" and you find loads of info on their page. For package trips google "spanish f1 tour". Simples.

the train was from im sure estacio sants (one of the main train stations) was only i think 3 euros each way then a couple km walk, you know which way to go as you follow everyone else

busses were from a street close to the estatio north

this tells you about the trains and busses available
