Hi,

I have read the instructions on the T mobile site. Looks straightforward enough. Try to access the web in the EU, get a text, choose a booster and away.
Run out of data get another text... This looks quite fair to me with no chance of a surprise large bill on return, ignore the texts and the internet just does not connect.

Who has tried this out? Any problems? How fast does the internet access kick in after taking a package? I have a smartphone, am on a monthly contact and off to Malta shortly.

You best get on the phone to customer services then, or leave the phone at home or use an internet cafe when you get there, enjoy your holiday.

T-mobile seem to have decent Internet boosters. 50mb for £10, for example. Complete contrast with Orange whose charges are outrageous.

I would play safe, though, and make sure that your data counter is zeroised before you go to Malta and keep a close watch on it, turning off all auto-sync facilities.

Personally, I would leave the phone at home, but your circumstances may be different.

i am off to malta in a few weeks and been looking at the same,i decided to leave the SGS2 at home and use my good old samsung M110(solid) which is a dum phone and its been round europe with me with no extra internet costs ,unlike some poeple ,
if i need internet i will use a internet cafe or the hotel internet cafe ,
i cannot see the point of taking a smart phone and then warrrying about the internet costs when on holiday ,when you can get a cheap dum phone for £2.95 http://www.carphonewarehouse.com/mobiles/mobile-phones/ALCATEL-OT-209/PPAY?src=phoneFinder&tariffNetworks=&clearance=false
no idea if it will work in malta
there or their, one day i might us the right one ,until then tuff

Well it also depends whether there actually are internet cafes where you go on holiday... plus I'd be extremely wary of using any public computers, same goes for any cafe/hotel/airport wi-fi hotspots... So I *do* take my SGS2 on holiday but because I'm rooted, I just use DroidWall to select what I want to allow to have access to the net...no worries and minimal data bills (and I wish 3 would hurry up and introduce data roaming packages...)

    OP: apologies for the off-topic!
Now free from the incompetence of vodafail

I was with Vodafone before and their roaming data always seemed so expensive I left it off and mucked about looking around
    for free wireless.
Now I have joined T-Mobile roaming data appears to be billed on a PAYG basis at much more sensible prices so I am actually tempted to have a data package and let my phone get on with its internet updates, I may turn off some of the more frivolous apps though to make my data go a bit further.

I just wondered if anyone had used T mobile in the Eu and how it went.

Why leave the phone at home when you've bought (going to buy) a booster and want to use data? That's rubbish advice.

With T-mobile you can't use data until you've bought the booster. Once the booster runs out, you need to buy another before you can use any more data.

You'll notice there are no threads on here about t-mobile massive roaming data bills, since these boosters have been around. Unlike pretty much every other network. Well apart from Giffgaff, who don't allow roaming, and there aren't that many o2 complaints either.

What happens if I don’t buy a Booster?
The internet on your phone will not work in Europe unless you buy a Booster. This means that you cannot run up large bills without knowing. The choice to buy a Booster appears when you try and use the internet.
