Just out of curiosity - if something has been deleted and emptied from the recycle bin, can it ever be recovered or is it lost forever?

When you delete something from the Recycle Bin, Windows does not actually overwrite the data, it just removes the reference to that data and frees up the space that it used on the disk.
If nothing else has been written to that specific space on the disk, the data is recoverable using the tools posted above or similar tools.
However, if that space on the disk has been reused then it is lost for ever.
The moral is, never delete something unless you are absolutely sure you will never want it again and, if you do make a mistake and accidentally delete something important, the sooner you act the better chance you have of recovering it.0 -

download the demo from recover my files and you can do a search and view anything that is still there. You just can't recover until you buy the license so you can at least see if the pictures are still there.0

Perhaps the pics may be recoverable form the camera's memory card ( if there is one )
Did you email them to anyone ? Look in your sent items folder.
There are a few free online photo sites that will let you upload pics for free but that is for futhur reference ....Rich people save then spend.
Poor people spend then save what's left.0 -

I've managed to recover some of the files but the rest were damaged cause when I opened them it displayed nothing, but the ones that were recovered were shrunk to tiny proportions compared to their original size. Is there anything I can do to get it back to original size as when I zoom the picture quality falls apart. It's literally thumbnail size when I open the pictures at the moment.0

it sounds like you have recovered thumbnails, rather than the files themselves. How did you recover them?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0
