MPV - Which one?

Options
I know I recently put a post on regarding a 4x4, however would an MPV be more practical?

Got a newborn littleone, a dog, and wife is selling Fiesta 1.6 Zetec S (Around £3500) and looking to get a family car to suit. Any advice of which MPV is best?

Thanks for your help in advance!

It might blow the budget a bit, but why not get the best of both worlds ...

    Renault Scenic 4x4

  • Well dumb question ... why an MPV?

Why not a Mondeo Estate - seats 5 and a monsterous boot to boot.

    What are your requirements?

  • Citroen Berlingo Multispace (1.4i,1.6i or 2.0HDi) would more than suit your space requirements and a 6-7 year old 5 door model would come in on budget. The rear tailgate and flat load bay will be fantastic for your dog and there's 3 full size seats in the back.

  • Just to say I already have a V50 Volvo estate for myself as a works vehicle, so I've sort of got the estate area covered with my car.

I suppose another estate wouldnt do us any harm! The reason is we have a dog, shopping, 2 adults, newborn, big pram etc etc, so the fiesta really aint the best car for the job.

Obviously when I'm around we use the company car (free fuel etc) but I stay away 2-3 times a week so my wife also needs that convenience of being able to bundle everything into one car.

Hope this info helps, you have all been duley thanked for your comments so far! any further advice is greatly appreciated.

Just been looking at a 2000 Kia Sportage, any experience of these anyone? 4x4 and sort of an estate combined!

Really like the sound of this one, bit of an ugly monster but would definately do the job!

After doing a bit of hunting this was the best and closest to budget Scenic RX4 I could find which was diesel and didnt have intergalactic miles.

    Autotrader Scenic RX4

As for the Sportage, remember you have to sell a car on in the future, there is a new Sportage out at the moment which is efecting used prices heavily. My experience is also that the servicing costs are quite high through Kia as well. I wold also check for where your nearest dealership is as well.

    Buy with caution!!!!!!!!!!!!
We had one, bought it brand new,it broke down 17 times in the first year, then needed a new engine and gearbox at 18 months,we got rid just after and sold it back to the dealer, plain awful mechanicaly but brilliant on space and comfort,I would just point out that the rear sliding doors, although on first glance are a very good idea, getting a baby into a babyseat in the rear is an absolute nightmare, somehow you always manage to catch your shoulders on the door, ouch! we probably had a lemon as a few of my friends have them and never experienced many problems,I think we were unlucky,as usual!
    I agree with the mondeo estate,great car for a family and dog,just a bit,well,boring :D
BTW the sportage boot will not fit a pram,a dog and shopping, from what I remember it's not that big.
    Good luck with the hunt

citroen picasso's are great - the 2.0l hdi is low tax group and gets 50 miles to the gallon.
  • Yep, Citroen Picasso is well worth considering. We have had three of them covering 130,000 miles, and none of them has ever let us down. Some minor niggles and build quaility issues but can't fault reliability.

The reason we have had three - we can't find anything else that offers a better value for money and space solution that doesn't look like a van.

If you're happy to sell it to me at a price I am happy to pay - then I want it cheaper.

Had a Mondeo Estate - great car. Replacing it with a C-Max, with the same 2 Litre diesel engine. Very clever rear seats; 3 normal seats or 2 with more leg and shoulder room. Good prices available on the net as well.
