I may end up having to buy a Mac instead, since most of the software I use these days runs on Macs as well as Windows.
Get a new pc just stick with XP Pro SP20 -

Also Microsoft Vista homepage states
If you're in the market for a new computer this holiday season, be sure to ask your retailer about the Express Upgrade to Windows Vista, being offered by participating PC manufacturers. When you buy a qualifying Windows Vista Capable PC between October 26, 2006 and March 15, 2007, you may be eligible for an Express Upgrade to Windows Vista.
The words participating and qualifying seem a bit restricting..And now microsoft are listing qualifying manufacturers that the upgrade is available from.
That and the fact Microsoft changed the OEM software license to this
http://oem.microsoft.com/downloads/Public/sblicense/English_SB_License.pdf
It looks like unless the OEM software is pre-installed by one of thier approved system builder then you wont get the upgrade. Can anybody throw more light on this???
just a note to remind you - Vista looks like it will need at least more than 1 gig of RAM to cope with all the features.......poss 2 gigTo be able under all circumstances to practice five things constitutes perfect virtue; these five things are gravity, generosity of soul, sincerity, earnestness and kindness.0 -

Nope.. had the RC2 running on a Athlon 2600 XP with 512MB ram And geforce 6600GT with all features running fine... Only time I could see for needing more ram would be games but when the new range of 1GB cards come out as well as full DX10 support in games and cards then you wont even need that.0 -

You'll have to re-purchase all your applications again...
Not as far as I'm aware: for all the expensive applications I'm pretty sure the dongles are dual Mac/PC and the software has both versions on the CD.
The lack of mouse buttons is probably a more serious problem.
