eBay would easily be by far the cheapest place to get any version of XP, I have picked up several copies of XP Pro OEM for under a tenner (and yes, they were all original copies with valid keys!)0

It may be hard to get hold of a retail copy of xp now because vista is here at the end of the month, but for a copy of oem xp, try either http://www.scan.co.uk/http://www.ebuyer.com/customer/home/ or http://www.overclockers.co.uk/
Hope this helps.
vista only comes out this month. so retail copies of xp will be available for years to come yet.all major retailers have them at the moment.0 -

XP IS the most popular os on the planet, what are you talking about?
VISTA on the other hand will take a while to catch on as not everyone needs or wants a brand new pc just to run the new os from billyG that will be Full of holes for quite a while to come.
you will be able to get retaill versions of XP for years to come.
i agree with you about fleabay though.0 -

Once the Vista die was up and running, do you seriously think they will still keep churning out retail copies of xp :rotfl:
of course they will as i said in my previous post XP IS THE MOST POPULAR O.S ON THE PLANET.But even that didnt happen overnight ppl still clung on(some still do) to systems running win98SE untill all the bugs and driver issues were ironed out also many people just saw xp as win2000 with media player thrown in with a whole raft of security issues as a side order.microsoft will produce xp as long as people want it.when an os comes out microsoft dont just dump the previous one.it will take a couple of years to persuade people that vista is stable enough.and that they have to upgrade at least half of the components in their pc as most will not run vista, the drivers around at the moment are thin on the ground at best.so i think you are barking up the wrong tree entirely saying xp will not be available once vista is released.0 -
I work in IT Sales and am avoiding Vista like the plague, someone give me some valid reasons as to why I would go out and waste £50-£300 on it?
Its going to be full of bugs and program incompatilbilities like every other version of windows on first release.
.......and don't mention pretty aero graphics as a benefit. I use XP pro, it works, its very fast, rarely crashes and I don't see any reason to change. All these people buying Vista must be mad!
The only benefit I can see in the long term future and I'm thinking 1 -2 years is that Vista will support DirectX10.
DX10 is going to be useful for gamers (who will also need to buy an expensive DX10 card to boot
http://www.aria.co.uk/ProductsList.asp?Name=8800
but until a game comes out I want which NEEDS DX10 and Vista to work I really don't see the point.
DX10 card £300

If you insist on Vista then ultimate would be the one to get £360
= £660
Hmmmmm anyone else with me on XP pro ? :rotfl:
Ps. Microsoft only recently stopped providing support for Windows 98!!!
Xp pro will have support for a long time to come0 -

Yeah, if you want to use your machine as a "media centre".
I got a new lappy on monday running MCE and it's great.
I've got a remote I bought seperately, I just hit the start button on the remote from my bed and then can chose my music/films etc on the TV.
I used to do this on xp pro using a combination of apps, but I like that it's built into MCE, works a lot nicer.0 -

Indeed. Vista is actively _discouraging_ me from getting a new PC any time in the next year or so; there's no way I'm using it until at least there's an SP1 release.
I may end up having to buy a Mac instead, since most of the software I use these days runs on Macs as well as Windows.0 -

Of course, have a look here
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/lifecycle/default.mspx
They will still supply OEM and retail versions of XP for 12 months after the general release date of Vista. For system Builders it will be available for 24 months after Vista is released.
Also they'll be supporting it for some time yet. They've already announced that Service Pack 3 for XP will be released in the first half of 2008.It's my problem, it's my problem
If I feel the need to hide
And it's my problem if I have no friends
And feel I want to die0
