I can see Edna_Bucket's thought process with the whole "the first person with over xx thanks gets it", but not everyone gets the thanks they deserve for a post (as pointed out by the OP), and the site would run the risk of becoming a little elitist in my view - it really shouldn't be about who can garner the most recognition for their posts.
  • Fair comment Myrtle, but these things do even out over time - most people get thanked in some way when they give things back to others. I don't think that's elitist - MSE is too widely read and contributed to for that.

I might test this in due course with a couple of spare vouchers.

As long as they've not put you on IGNORE like they have me:rolleyes:
  • ...and of course, I should have added earlier that I wouldn't take "thanks" into account that had been gained by posters congratulating each other for their cleverness in the Arms or Discussion Time! :D:D:D

Thanks queensway_boy - your post and looking quickly at where your first ten pages of thanked posts had come from reminded me of that :rotfl: :rotfl:

I suppose I would be classified as a lurker as I read much more than I post.

I'll post a reply if I have something specific to say if I just want to acknowledge or thank someone I use the thanks button - surely that's what it's for?

If we had to reply to every post in order to see links the threads would become unreadable.

Could we change the way we post topics, so the kind people who do put freebies up receive the credit.

I don't understand what sort of credit you are looking for. Do you want more thanks, or just more people saying "hey you are wonderful for posting this freebie". The latter just clogs up the board. The thanks button is over used in DT and MSA but fellow members do provide a lot of support and advice to one another in these threads aside from the good natured banter.

Many people post lots of helpful advice and tips and don't expect any recognition for this so why should freebies be different. A good freebie or tip may make Martin's money tips - that is a honour!!

Making people post a reply before they can see the post is a bit !!!!!! TBH.
What I was getting at was making original posts private UNLESS you are logged in. That way members of the public who aren't registered get to see the replies saying "wow great tip" etc etc BUT they have to join & log in to view the OP.
Anyone else get what I'm banging on about? - I'm finding it hard to explain!

LOL - an "honour" or a poisoned chalice bearing in mind some of the ones that have appeared recently! :rotfl: :rotfl:
