Ripped off leaving T-Mobile retention deal.
Options
About a year back I was offered a retention deal by T-Mobile - £5 per month, 300 mins, 300 texts & unlimited internet on a rolling monthly contract normally costing £15. I have just ported my number to the O2 contract which came with my new phone.
T-Mobile have now billed me a £28.79 notice period charge. I was prepared for a charge of up to £5 for 30 days notice but this seems excessive. After around three quarters of an hour on the phone I wasn't too much wiser as to why I'd been charged so much and T-Mobile weren't shifting. It seems I'd had my retention discounts cancelled for the previous month's rental, then been charged 30 days notice at full price. It still doesn't quite seem to add up but it's the closest I can get to understanding what has happened.
Anyway, thought I'd warn others of the pitfalls of trying to leave T-Mobile, or accepting a retention deal in the first place.

well how much is that?
its fairly common to lose all benefits of a retention deal if you cancel it early0 -
As I said in the first sentence of my post, it was a rolling monthly contract. I refused a 12 month contract.Reading this signature is a waste of time0

well they are just charging you a straight months fee
you cant expect what is essentially a loyalty bonus whilst leaving the company?0 -

Can you show what you mean by "a straight months fee"? I can't see such a term in the T-Mobile's T&Cs. There is a "notice period charge" which should equate to 30 day's line rental, which would not explain the excessive charge I have outlined.Reading this signature is a waste of time0 -
If you pay a standard fee for the line, then they apply a seperate discount to bring the cost down, then the discount element is not counted if you decide to leave, as you are basically turning your back on their loyalty offer by leaving.I spent 25 years in the mobile industry, from 1994 to 2019. Worked for indies as well as the big networks, in their stores also in contact centres. I also hold a degree in telecoms engineering so I like to think I know what I’m talking about 😂0

Which at worst would equate to an extra ten pounds for the 30 days notice period. I am being charged more.Reading this signature is a waste of time0

Not sure, if the standard monthly bill would have been £15 before your £10 discount, how they could have got to over £28, unless there were lots of calls.
Have they explained that?0
