    what make laptop ??

I suspect they will just reload windows as that seems to be one of the fixes..

you can do a "repair" of Xp yourself

    Hi Xzbit -

have to ask - how do you un-install programmes ? Do you just delete the folder ?

Hi, no I'm not completely clueless lol. I goto add/remove programs, or to the own programs own uninstall command if it has one.

Thanks Browntoa, though I don't know where to start looking for something I may have done. It is an Acer laptop. I don't have a Windows XP disc, I just had to make a backup DVD when I got it. Would I use this??

reading that Xp article it is possibly due to a bit of software thats replaced an important windows one, if theres nothing much in the way of data to lose (or you back it up to CD's now) then the backup DVD will restore the PC to the point where you did the DVD

it may be worth trying system restore

go back to a date before you remember this error happening, or go back a month and try a date there to see if it still happens...if so go then back to the earliest Restore point that you have and try that...

if still no joy then try the back-up DVD you have (you will need to do anti virus updates and windows updates since the DVD was made)
