Every 10 or so times I turn my laptop on, it comes up with an unknown hard error and wont boot up. If I turn it off, and restart it, then it'll be fine for a while then say it again.
Anyone had anything like this before?

time to back it up..
what is the exact error msg?Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time? :rolleyes:0 -
Does the message appear on a blue screen with white writing, or a "normal" message box within Windows?
If the former it could be anything from overheating, bad memory or software that's causing Windows to fail.
If you feel brave, click Start - Run - eventvwr.exe and it will open the Event Viewer where you can find all sorts of supporting information about the error. Look in the Application section, and then the System section. You can narrow the view by choosing View - Filter and unchecking the Information option. This should help highlight any serious issues to help troubleshoot the problem.0 -
It comes up with a blue screen with white writing saying something along the lines of "unknown hard error" with some numbers and something else. I will write it down next time.
I will back everything important up tomorrow I think. I will try that eventvwr thingy, I my be back if it works lol.0 -
Ok. I turned the information bit off. There's still loads in there, but only 1 from today. It's in the System tab and says
Error / 05/01/2007 / 18.20.33 / service control manager / none / 7000
In the description it says "The Cyberlink Rich Video Service (CRVS) service failed to start due to the following error: The system cannot find the file specified."
Any help?
Actually, that error is there everytime it is turned on. So there is no error logged for today!!0 -
download this

install and then run "1-click-maintenance" a couple of times and let it fix all the errors it finds
then reboot and see what happens

I have run the 1-click-maintenance and I had about 300 errors, which is a bit concerning for a 3 month old laptop lol. Did it again, and had about 50 errors, and then reboot and tried again and there are now no errors.
Hopefully it would have fixed everything that was wrong and hopefully the random error on start-up, but wont know for a week or two lol.0 -
Ok, it hasn't fixed it. It just came up when I restarted it again.

Yeah i deleted it all when i got it. have ran tune up a few times now. put the error into google, and there's talk of windows updates doing it, and going back and installing them one by one, to hardware conflicts.
if it keeps doing it, can i send it off and get it fixed??0 -
0xC000021A: STATUS_SYSTEM_PROCESS_TERMINATED
(Click to consult the online Win XP Resource Kit article, or see Windows 2000 Professional Resource Kit, p. 1561.)
This occurs when Windows switches into kernel mode and a user-mode subsystem, such as Winlogon or the Client Server Runtime Subsystem (CSRSS), is compromised and security can no longer be guaranteed. Because Win XP can’t run without Winlogon or CSRSS, this is one of the few situations where the failure of a user-mode service can cause the system to stop responding. This Stop message also can occur when the computer is restarted after a system administrator has modified permissions so that the SYSTEM account no longer has adequate permissions to access system files and folders.- GoBack Causes a Stop Error C000021a {KB 316503} Win XP
