oldwiring wrote:Small point here Cardew, K mentioned a bill for waste water in his post. I am a bit puzzled that he did not mention his water bill, as isn't the wastewater bill based on the water bill less something like 5% mot retuened to the sewer? If usage on both for the same period does not agree could there be a billing error?
Yes, I noted the 'waste water' terminology but in the overall context of the post it made no sense, as the post was clearly about water consumption - new meter - consumption of 70 cu mtr etc.
The more water you use(as measured by the meter) the more you pay in sewerage(waste water) charges.0 -
I agree, but without the mention of the water bill I, perhaps foolishly, am wondering if the wastewater co may have mangled their calculations and got things wrong, even though the water co's readings were correct.Cardew wrote:Yes, I noted the 'waste water' terminology but in the overall context of the post it made no sense, as the post was clearly about water consumption - new meter - consumption of 70 cu mtr etc.

I do not know about other areas but my water bills are usually for 1/2 ending 30/9 and 31/3 and are issued during Oct and Apr, with the wastewater following a few weeks later. Are all the bills (water and wastewater) our friend received for the same period?0 -

Fair point about the mangled calculations.
I think your situation is atypical in that your water supply and sewerage are handled(I use the term carefully!) by 2 different companies. - this happens when you are on the border of an area.
My supplier(Severn Trent) controls both and they are included in the one bill - Jan/July in my case.0 -
BUt what of K? By his post I am thinking he may be also a two company man.
I wonder if he will come back at any point.0 -
We have 2 water companies- one for supply and one for waste. The latest bill is the waste water- we had the supply bill at Xmas. The waste one is based on the same amount of consumption but is considerably dearer. We always had 2 bills a year from each company but for some reason this year the waste bills are arriving at shorter and shorter intervals. The last one was dated 29 sept and this one jan.
Got through to the supply company today and they say it sounds like a problem with the new meter so will send someone to check it out.
I'm aware our consumption is below average. Unlike everyone else in my office we don't go in for 4 daily baths and 4 daily showers.0 -
Quick update- water board have checked meter and it has a leak. Fortunately for us the leak is within the meter and as it is a new one they put in they say it is their responsibility. They are taking it away to check and will recalculate our bills. So it is worth making a fuss if it doesn't seem right.0
