Delayed luggage- Monarch- compensation/reimbursement?

I recently travelled to Spain with Monarch. On arrival at Malaga, my luggage did not turn. I spoke to the relevant person at the Iberia desk at Malaga and they gave me a Property Irregularity Report and advised that I would be contacted if my bag turned up. At this point they claimed they had no way of telling me if my bag had left London/ arrived in Spain or generally where it was.
I then had to purchase everything on the expectation that I would not see my bag for the remainder of the holiday. I called the number ( several times) which was written on the report to check if there was any update on my bag but no one ever answered.
My bag then turned up the next evening without any warning whatsoever. I was lucky to be in my flat at the time.
My total expenses were around £400 including toiletries, clothing, make up etc. Whilst I was away my boyfriend called monarch to attempt to get any information about my bag and he seems to recall them saying that up to £30 per 24 hours can be claimed if the necessary receipts are provided. However I cannot find this information anywhere on the monarch website.
I have done a little research and have come across the Montreal Convention which states:
"For delayed baggage, some airlines offer immediate one-off payments at a set amount to cover emergency purchases (such as toiletries or underwear). Some will pay a set amount per day up to a maximum of days. Others will not make cash payments at the time, but prefer to reimburse expenditure on essential items on seeing the receipts. But the general principle is to cover essential expenditure resulting from the delay to delivery of the baggage."
My options seem to be:
1) Claim with Monarch- however if what I think they said over the phone to my boyfriend was correct , I will only be able to claim £30.
2) Claim on my Virgin Travel Insurance which has an excess of £100
Can anybody advise if all of the above sounds correct? I obviously want to claim back as much as possible. My main uncertainty is that if I were to claim with monarch then they would only pay the £30.
thank you

I wasn't seeking approval on my expenditure , I was asking a question. But if you must know I am a woman who had no clothes, no underwear no tolietries no makeup and was staying in a very expensive part of spain. I like to maintain a personal standard of hygiene which some people may decide to neglect....
If you have nothing constructive to say then please do not waste my time and comment.0 -

If you have nothing constructive to say then please do not waste my time and comment. The common law of business balance prohibits paying a little and getting a lot. If you deal with the lowest bidder, it is well to add something for the risk you run, and if you do that you will have enough to pay for something better.0 -

Woah there!!! At this rate you won't last long on this forum. Malkie76 was actually saying exactly what I was thinking (and has every right to comment if he so wishes!!)- you have no chance whatsoever of claiming anything like you have spent. And he was right - it does seem rather excessive. You jumped the gun - you did not HAVE to purchase everything there and then. You could have purchased the necessary essentials and waited 24 hours - that would be the sensible thing to have done.
And I suspect your Virgin insurance won't cover it either (but I may be wrong).0 -

you state, from the montreal convention:"For delayed baggage, some airlines offer immediate one-off payments at a set amount to cover emergency purchases (such as toiletries or underwear). The words 'emergency' amounts, 'Essential items'........
yes, i understand that you have standards, and hygene, but for what you would need for 24 hours (toiletries, underwars, even a new dress), would you constitute £400.00.
Or look at it another way. if you were travelling for a week, would your luggage equate to £2800.00 worth of goods?

Reminds me of the poster who wanted compensation for the trauma of being separated from her hair straighteners on her return to the UK; we laughed at her too!:D0 -

Suggest next time you invest in a personal jet to keep your extensive wardrobe in one piece and avoid you having to compromise your hygiene standards with the great unwashed.
As for the £400 of 'essential spending' :rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:0
