London Eye advice

I am going to London in a few weeks.
We would like to do the London eye.

Can anyone advise how long the queues usually are (both to buy tickets and to get on).

I know we can buy tickets in advance but I'm not sure I want to do this in case the weather is really bad and it's not worth going.
Of course if the weather is clear then the queues may be longer.

Is it worth going at night instead?

I have heard it's really good but I expect it's very popular even in January.

Don't buy the tickets in advance. If you buy them on the day, you can get 2-for-1 if you have an Oyster Card.

No idea about queue time etc.

In terms of the best time to go .... having been on it 4 times, I thought the best one was around 8.30pm on a summers evening - its daylight when you get on it and its almost dark when you come off so you see the transision while you are in the air.

If you can avoid weekends - do.

Then I don't think you'd wait longer than 15 minutes.

I would now get them on the day, so you can change your mind. The two times I've been, i've booked a slot. Both days turned out to be really foggy, and I could barely see across the Thames....!

    Thanks for all the advice.

I didn't realise about Oyster so I will definitely check out the 2 for 1s.

We are going on a January weekend and can't change that now.

I can't see the Oyster offer on so I am guessing that it has finished?
    Anyone confirm or deny?

I've been on it twice. Once in the summer and once in the winter and waited 2 hours on the summer one and one our on the winter one, plus the wait in the queue for the tickets beforehand.

I believe it has finished I'm afraid.

As for the queues, whenever I've passed by they've been pretty long. On a couple of occasions I've joined the queue but given up because it moves so slowly - though I guess it may be better at this time of the year. I asked one of the attendants if there was a time when the queues were not as long and he suggested late afternoon was the best time.

  • I've been on it many times. Order your tickets over the internet and you can pick them up from the automatic machines (exactly the same as you do at the cinema).
  • I've signed it on principle - we have to keep trying and not just give up !!
you know when you're getting older - the wife says, "let's go upstairs and make love" and you reply, "I can't do both" !!

We went in July on a sunny midweek afternoon - we did have to queue, but it wasn't for long. Can't remember exactly, but quite well organised and better than other places I have been.
