I posted in the what security do you use thread, and RussJk suggested I open a new thread with my hijackthis log in, to see what Im running.
This is my OP;
Hi, Im after some advice please. I was running microsoft security essentials and avast on my lappy. Now wether coincidence or not, I ran scans with both a few weeks back, nothing found, I then had lots of updates done by microsoft when switching off which were taking ages. Then I noticed that microsoft security had been deleted from my lappy. I ran scan again with avast, and nothing, so tried to re-install MSE, but got error code, which basically they said meant it couldnt download with any other sercurity programs being on my lappy. Now a friend told me to download and run Malwarebytes, which I did and it found nothing. Pretty sure this is now trying to compete with avast as it keeps popping up its blocked avast from doing stuff.
My question is, should I delete Avast and then try and re-install MSE, should I run avast with the malware and not bother with MSE, or should I delete them all and someone suggest a better plan?
I dont have any problems with my lappy, it seems to be running fine, other than the battery has stopped warning me its getting low, but thats been doing that for ages. Sorry if I dont sound in the know, Im not, hope someone can help me. Thanks.
Will put the log in next post as it seems quite long.

That's due to Avasts web shield.
http://forums.malwarebytes.org/index.php?showtopic=10138&st=0&p=162100&#entry162100Why is Malwarebytes' blocking my antivirus?
It isn't, but it may appear so because of the process name shown in the pop up which belongs to your antivirus. This can happen if you use an antivirus software that intercepts all incoming and outgoing internet traffic to look for infections which makes Windows think it is your antivirus initiating the connection and thus Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware thinks the same thing.0 -
That is the latest one I posted. I only have 2 as I only installed it yesterday.
Yes I use nectar toolbars for searching as I get points when I do it. Will do the other one though. Thanks.0 -
So should I now be ok to delete avast and re-install MSE? Is it better to have MSE than avast?0
-
I use MSE, others use and would recommend Avast. I'd go with whatever your own personal preference is.0

Thanks very much0

I wouldn't switch antiviruses just yet. What site are you on when you get the Malwarebytes messages?
Could you run the following scans:
1. TDSSKiller (http://support.kaspersky.com/downloads/utils/tdsskiller.exe) - let us know if it finds anything
2. Hitmanpro (http://dl.surfright.nl/HitmanPro35_x64.exe) - don't worry about cookies, but clean any trojans, etc (unless you believe it to be a false positive).0 -
You could install a install a custom hosts file for additional protection.
- Download this file: http://winhelp2002.mvps.org/hosts.zip
- Once downloaded, right click on hosts.zip and >extract all (Make sure there is a check in the "Show extracted files when complete" option)
- Right-click mvps.bat and select: Run as Administrator
- Ok the UAC prompt
