Looking for advice on the best way to go from here;
Short story:) - 20th December 06 agreed car insurance over the phone with "company X". Tuesday 2nd called to chase up papers and also no payment had come out from my account, to be told "your car insurance was cancelled on the 22nd Dec" - basically they had screwed up (1st time) but still offered to honour the quote I had haggled for after listening back to the tapes from 20th, I was also told "no money will be taken out from your account until the 30th of Jan 07 and I will call back to confirm the amount". Check bank account today (5th Jan 07) "company X" have taken out money yesterday (4th Jan) for MORE than was originally agreed!!!:mad: . Called them straight back and went over it all AGAIN, they admitted they have made a big mistake and that "the compensation people will be in touch in a few days". So basically how much can I push compensation people for and what angle should I approach from? - or can I take this further as they have basically robbed me of money by taking it out of my account without my permission?. Sorry for the long post, believe me this is the short version!!, luckily they have a freephone number via https://www.saynoto0870.com - saved me a packet!!. Thanks for your responses, Chris.

Unless they have caused you actual financial loss (eg bank fees) then all they will really be paying for is the inconvenience for which £10 would be a fairly standard amount.
If it is an issue you can always invoke the direct debit guarantee and get the money straight back into your account but then this may result in the insurance being voided automatically for non-payment.All posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

I think you'll be lucky to get more than £25 unless you can prove you were financially disadvantaged by their mistake. I would also expect this to be limited to less if the premium was not particularly large. Only time will tell.
It would be interesting to know how you get on as a formal complaint means that they have to follow prescribed procedures which cost them money to process though.0 -
just for info,
I received £15 compensation....
Not really worth the hassle but better than a kick in the....
