Car insurance renewal increase, can anything be done?

I have been insured for a year with Tesco. When my renewal notice arrived the premium had increased. I phoned them as I needed to remove one of the drivers to see if that would reduce it. During my conversation the phone operator asked if I was satisfied with the quote, and I told him I was going to shop around as it had increased more than I thought. "To save you the bother", he said,"Let me see if I can work out any discounts for you". The end result was a reduction of about £20 PLUS 100 Tesco points per month for the next year (which amounts to about £12). So it looks as if it is well worth expressing dissatisfaction with the quote as there may be reductions available. Why don't they apply these reductions anyway? A con or what?0

She rang churchill back and this time they put her through to retentions, the man said even his own car insurance had gone up and all car insurance has gone up by 30 - 40%. She said se hadn't expected it to be quite so much though at a rise of £110 so he said he was sure he could do something for her to get it down a bit. He then had a look and came back saying he was really sorry but she had all the max discounts he could put on her policy and in this intance he could not reduce it any futher than her renewal quote already states.
Her partner rang admiral to see about doing a 2 car quote but it was massive. In fact all the quotes so far have been higher than her renewal quote.
Shes going to call again tomorrow as they were closed when she rang back today to get a quote with her partner added and possibly reducing her miles as they have dropped considerably.
She is also thinking about having her ncb protected this time for her 6yrs worth, they have said it will be about £50 is that worth it?
She lives in a low crime rate area, its not her post code
Still going to get other quotes though, but churchill did say they were connected to direct line tooThanx

Protecting your NCD means you are allowed 1 fault claim in a policy year or two fault claims within 3 years. Fault claim basically means one where your insurance company has to pay out. If you did make a claim you wouldn't lose your NCD. Normally you would lose 2 years per fault claim. However it doesn't guarentee increase in NCD at next renewal. Max is 5 anyway. Any subsequent claims would mean you would lose 2 years NCD. It protects the no claims discount not the premium which can still go up at renewal. I'm in retentions btw. Hope this info helps you to make a decision on pncd.Halifax £744 and coming down

Have a look at Cooperative Insurance Society (CIS)
They used to be pretty good with young drivers and are not on comparison sites.make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -

Are you sure? Which companies allow you to make a claim without having to pay your excess?
My husband has made 2 claims on fully comp policies that have protected NCD, one was named driver fault and the other was 3rd party fault but both times the excess had to paid.
If a 3rd party is at fault you can claim it back from them but from our experience the excess has to be paid in the first instance.:heart2: Love isn't finding someone you can live with. It's finding someone you can't live without :heart2:0 -
Are you sure?
I think there is some confusion here.
If someone makes a claim against you then it's covered on the 3rd party section of your policy. For this there is usually no excess.
If you make a claim on the fully comp part for your own car then there is usually an excess to pay.0 -
Excess is payable unless claimed back from third parties insurance, in which case it is paid back sorry for confusion.Halifax £744 and coming down

Daughter enquired if she adds her partner as a named driver who has just 1yr ncb it would reduce by £76, she also asked about taking 3000 miles off which would reduce it again by another £20 so that would be a saving of £96. Shes only on £100 voluntary excess though so that is low, is it worth increasing that?
If she does add her partner and reduce the miles her pncb cost would be £41.34, still thinking on that one if to take it or not.
I know someone went into the back of her just over a year ago and before they admitted fault churchill took 2yrs ncb off my daughter until it was all sorted. She didnt have to pay anything or any excess but it was still stressfull
I know her partner had 8yrs ncb then in a highly suspect incident a car full of 5 youths braked in front of him in a very odd way, they all 5 of them claimed whiplash but all of them were refused payouts for this. Her partner thought it was a deliberate attempt on the youths part to claim personal injury. He lost all his ncb at the time and has now just built back up to 1yr so you can lose it all, not just 2yrs. He chose to go with admiral because they have a faster build up for ncb, 10 months rather than 12 count as 1yr ncbThanx

Years of NCB lost due to fault claim varies between companies. 2 years is correct for op. Increasing excess if possible does reduce premium but never by more than the increase.Halifax £744 and coming down

It was either directchoice or direct car insurance that took away th 8 years from her partner, it was not direct line which is a similar nameThanx
