Car insurance renewal increase, can anything be done?

Daughters churchill insurance renewal has just arrived with an increase of £110, she has 6yrs ncb on a vw polo dec 2009.
Is it normal at the moment for it to increase like that? Her partners reduced by a lot (almost £200)when he put her on his insurance as 2nd driver in January then when his yearly renewal came last month it had gone down even further so why should my daughters go up by that much even though they live at same property?
She can't use confused.com because she has metalic paint and they class that as a modification so online quotes are not possible they just say phone in.
Is it worth trying to get a 2 car insurance? he has a toyota iygo with 1yr ncb and she the vw polo with 6yrs ncb. Her partner is presently on a 10 month thing to increase his ncb quicke r with Admiral, not sure exctly how that works but could he still move to take out a 2 car insurance with her?
Are there any dissadvantages of multi/2 car insurances?
Or is there any way to get churchill to lower the premium renewal without changin her ser settings?
Also is there any advantages or disadvantages in spending more to protect your ncb or is this just a ase of money?

I think most peoples Car Insurance premiums have gone up by 20%+.
What you will find is that once you have been with the same Insurers for a few years is that loyalty is rewarded with an increased premium. Suggest that she starts to shop around. Obtain quotes through comparison sites, companies that don't use them e.g Direct Line and also local brokers.
Re Metallic paint issue, I don't think they are concerned about normal bog standard metallic paint. What they are interested in are the special paint finishes that are available, which on some cars can cost £2000 to have done.
Not sure whether a multi car would be better or not. They would need to get quotes and find out. With the renewals being at different times currently, I am not sure the boyfriend would be happy cutting short a policy year so not earning the years NCD and then having to pay cancellation charges.
In regard to Churchill and any price matching, what some companies will do, is look at alternative quotes and then offer a reduction within a certain percentage amount So if she found say a policy that was 10% cheaper the Churchill they may be prepared to price match.
In regard to NCD protection depends on the cost. Would she be happy losing 2 years NCD following a fault claim, plus a loading for having a claim. Even with NCD protection there would be a premium loading for a claim, but worse if 2 years NCD also lost. The comments I post are personal opinion. Always refer to official information sources before relying on internet forums. If you have a problem with any organisation, enter into their official complaints process at the earliest opportunity, as sometimes complaints have to be started within a certain time frame.0 -
Thanks, Its just I thought I remembered reading somewhere that protecting your ncb is a bit of a con and I didnt quite understand why, is it that its only with that insurer and if you move insurers anyway that protection doesnt count?
She rang to ask churchill if they would improve on the premium renewal but they said no the only way she could reduce it is by upping her excess which is only 100 an 150 but its always been that anyway
They said the increase is not just with them its throughout the car insurance industry. They also said it could be partly because she has moved houses within the year but whn she did ring them to tell them they did not say she had any increase to pay at the time yet her partners has gone down. Its close to her previous home and random quotes for the 2 addresses come up at just about the same price. I do not think the address is affecting the premium in this case
From her getting quotes for the car since she has had it they do put metalic paint as a modification, I was surprisedThanx

Recently, higher risk people/areas have seen their premiums increase a lot. Lower risk have seen little in the way of increase.
So, she needs to find out what it is that makes her risky and if its something that can be changed, then think about that. If its postcode then there is not a lot she can do about it.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. Change insurer. Every year.
Get Quidco/Topcashback.
Get new customer discount.
You get nothing from any insurer for loyalty.British Ex-pat in British Columbia!0 -
is your daughters partner named on her policy? this can sometimes reduce the premium
try an online churchill quote, if lower the retention department will match.0 -

You can still use an aggregator like Confused.com to find out who is giving the better quotes. When you click through to the insurers website you will need to add on the vehicle modifications (if necessary) or call them.
What insurers count as a modification varies a lot and is always worth checking. Some use the strictest definition of anything other than the base model, others use a much more relaxed definition of either only things done after the car was produced and/ or only performance enhancing items. So you need to check with each one.
I did the above with my car that has about £3,000 of optional extras from metallic paint, leather seats etc and my current insurers added no premium load at all for it but all are noted in the docs.0 -
Ran a quote online with churchill under a fake name, same age and same postcode with everything the same. For some reason it does not ask about modifications on churchill now but before it would not even procede ith a quote. The quote came out at a few pounds higher
Did not want to put in true id yet because from previous experience fake name same postcode etc came out cheaper compared to true id which came out exact to the penny the same as renewal quote in the past.
They have stated over the phone that she is no higher risk than anyone else they said its gone up fo everyone
We will keep getting quotes, only thing is if a site wont alow a quote online because of modifications you just get a window saying ring for quote o in that case you miss out on cashback through topcashback (prefer to quidco)
Which are the best ones to try at the moment?Thanx

If you read the assumptions it probably states that they assume that there are no modifications to the vehicle.0
