If you print a lot and you have space (and no children), get a continuous ink system. I have one for my printer, and it's surprisingly good. You don't get prints quite as good, but mostly it looks just fine.
Oh, and I pay around £50 for a complete refill, which has around 30 times the amount of ink of a standard cartridge on each colour!Squirrel! If I tell you who I work for, I'm not allowed to help you. If I don't say, then I can help you with questions and fixing products. Regardless, there's still no secret EU law.
Now 20% cooler0 -

Is the continuous ink system a modification to a normal cartridge printer or did you have to buy a special printer?0 -

A modification, though check they are actually cheaper to run
For example, the system here is £30 plus £65:70 for the inks (6 X 250ml = to £10:95 a bottle)

Each bottle is equal to 13.15 cartridges from here at £8 for 14

Thanks. The cartridges in the second link are amazingly cheap. They have come down in price a lot in the last few months.
I just today received a replacement cassette for a Canon FC220 photocopier (small desktop copier) for less than £15 (incl P&P) through ebay. It is new/refilled and works fine and it seems to be full of toner. The lowest price I have previously paid is about £85 and that is with shopping around including ebay.0 -
That's quite a difference, if they store well and have a long use by date, could be worth getting a spare0

Stinkyink sells 3rd party inks fairly cheap. They aren't the "genuine" cartridges, but work just as well and are often larger for a lot less cash.
Failing that, there seems to be a whole industry around refuilling empty cartidges.0 -
