2x Parking Tickets...

Hi all,

I received a great new year present from my council (Newham). I had a year's resident parking permit which expired on 21/12/2006. For the new year I was not in town, celebrating, unaware that my permit has expired. When I returned on the 04/01/2007 I found my car having 2 parking tickets 1 on 3rd at 9am and the other on 4th at 9am both tucked in the same plastic envelope.

I am wondering if they can give me multiple tickets at once and if they should have sent me a reminder or something reminding to renew my permit or anything. Should I do anything about it or will I just have to give away £80.

Looking forward to your replies.

Kind Regards,
Hussain

It's not going to hurt to make a quick call and see if they'll waive the charges in these circumstances, but you are in the wrong so need to be prepared to hand over the cash.

You should have known the permit expired, they probably don't need to send you a reminder, they did not know you where out of town, they appear to have given you 2 weeks grace anyway, (permit expired 21/12/2006, 1st parking ticket 03/01/2007 = 14 days grace), can't see the PA's being on holiday for 2 weeks.

Lucky you came back on the 4th or they could have kept mounting up.

    Thanks for the replies guys.

I agree your points are very valid and I guess i'll just have to pay it. Still i will wait for the next 10 days (before my discount period expires) and wait for some messiah to convince me that I have not lost the £80 :)

Make sure to check all the terms of the ticket - if there's the option to appeal against it - use it. In some cases, as long as you inform them you're disputing it during the 14 days, then the amount due gets frozen at that amount until they send you a letter to tell you they've not found in your favour (as they invariably do). BUT it'd give you however long it takes them before you have to pay.
