Electric Storage Heaters...advice please

Hi All,
A friend of mine has moved into an all electric maisonette, which is on E7.
From the looks of the Dimplex units on the wall they were put up with the build (late 80's/early 90's at a guess) and have input, output and the main one also has a instant heater (assume a wire heater?) on the front.
Anyway, being as he works 9-5 the heat is basically sat around leaking (admittedly warming the fabric) meaning there is little available come 7pm when he gets home.
My question is are the new units available (Storage type) particularly better at storing heat than back in the early 90's (any guide on % would be great). So we can look either replacing or spending a tenner on a tesco fan heater and using on peak at 7-10pm?
Cheers,

Modern storage heaters are better at controlling the output. Has he played around with the input/output settings to see if he can get some more heat later in the day?
Replacement will not be economic compared to the cost of a few hours running a fan heater though. No free lunch, and no free laptop

Thanks,
Yeah we've adjusted the settings it just it is around 12-13 hours after the night7 ends before he needs it so understandably a big chunk has gone.
I've been looking for a thermal storage % type figure for storage heaters, the loss per hour/day is freely available for water storage tanks but seems not for heaters?

Are you talking this time of year? Where are you where its so cold that heating is required. I am not turning the heating on until November maybe October if it's really cold. Get a blanket on the sofa and get under it if it's a bit chilly. Thanks,

Before you go to bed every night you must always turn the output setting to the minimum setting then you will have heat when you get home in the evening then you turn it up a bit. You have to get used to remembering to turn it down. If it's set to Max all the heat will be gone by 7pm.:footie:

What is the energy Efficiency rating of the property?. If its a very poor rating, no change of heater is going to help very much if its all P***ing out of the walls, roof and windows.
Better to spend some money towards improving / bettering the insulation etc, before spending a fortune on new heating."Dont expect anybody else to support you, maybe you have a trust fund, maybe you have a wealthy spouse, but you never know when each one, might run out" - Mary Schmich0
