  • DH just called - he hasn't got the promotion :(:(:(:( I'm gutted for him. Last week he was only meant to be away Monday night but didn't get home til Thursday; he's trained the majority of his colleagues; and does all of the most complex work! One week I know he brought in 3 times as much money as anyone else! Yet he never gets a thank you or a pay rise or anything and now this!!:mad::mad::mad:

I've told we'll sit down & work out what he might need for a business & he can set one up asap - won't be for at least 3 years though! Or he might join the police in 2 years ...

  • Just thought I would give a belated welcome. I've never noticed the diary before. You sound like you have your head screwed on well. Sorry to hear of your DH's set back with the promotion.
  • Thank you Michelle, I'm a long time lurker on your thread, although don't always keep up with it as it moves so fast!

He didn't even get a letter inviting him to the interview, or even one to say they received his CV! And the owner didn't interview him but did interview the person that has been given the job (this person used to work there & left to join the competition & has been in jail )! They treat my DH so unfairly it makes me want to scream!!!!!:mad::mad::mad::mad:

First day at Uni today & I'm totally shattered! Start work at 06:20 tomorrow :(:(:(:( But get a lie in on Friday! :T:T I have stuck to my diet today!! :D:D:D Despite wanted to stuff chocolate & chips in my gob (not at the same time!) :p. This also means that I haven't spent any money, apart from £3 for parking, I budgeted £10 a day so if I keep this up I'll have some more dosh to throw at the mortgage! :D So at this rate I'll be a skinny minny with no mortgage in no time! :rotfl:

  • In good news: I found out today that the masters course at uni is for non-graduates so I don't have to do the bridging course making it only 2 years and it will be under the £3k per year that I was expecting!!! :money: I had been hoping to start trying for a baby next year but I can wait for 2 if it means I'm done with studying after that! I have to have an interview for a place so they may not want me but at least I know them & should be able to get a good idea if I will get a place before I interview for it. I feel £3k richer already!! :p

And in other good news: I went to pay my uni fees because I had forgotten (!!!:o) and found a reminder invoice on my uni email which says that I have already paid £550!!! :T:j Last year I paid my fees & then got the invoice which was lower than I had thought it was. I did call & ask the finance department but I didn't get an answer & assumed someone had made a mistake ... maybe not!! Now feel £3,550 richer!! :D

    ETA: oh & I've lost 5lb!!

  • I forgot to mention that I received two letters in the same envelope from my mortgage company. They were the same date but had different amounts on them for the Choices scheme. So I called them to check which one it would be and found out that the Choices payments sit in a "reservoir" until the end of the year!! What's the point in that!! And it means that someone lied to me!! Needless to say I complained; cancelled the future payments and requested a refund!! :p

I will put the extra £50 a month aside with the rent money and pay £500 off the capital when I can.

Don't understand why they are making it so difficult to give them money back when they want us to move our mortgage as they are now a nationalised company!! The other week when I called them he had the check to ask me what my plans are to pay the mortgage back!! I said: "Erm do you not think that's a bit of a cheeky question when I've just sent you a cheque for £5k and I'm paying money through you Choices scheme?"!!!

  • I have had a lovely weekend :D:D:D DH had the day off from the police so I booked today off & only had 2 clients yesterday which meant I was home at 12:00. DH took me out to dinner last night, only to the Harvester but it was lovely (and around 1200 calories ) and then we went to the cinema (we have free cards) so a lovely but fairly cheap night out. Today we've just mooched about really, DH watched the Grand Prix & I'm half way through tidying the house - finally!

Just had our builder come over & give us a quote for putting a small extention on the side of the house for me to have a consulting room - therefore not having to pay to hire a room. But he in visions problems with footing etc so vaguely quoted £15k (although he said that should be too much but just in case) if there are no real problems. But he said if we converted the garage it should only cost around £10-11k and it would give me a much bigger room that I could use as an office as well. We've talked it over & we think the latter is a better idea but I don't think we will have the money til early 2014!! We talked yesterday about how long we will be in the house and DH thinks 10 years. I was a bit taken aback at first but I can see the benefit of staying here that long. So that means we should get about 7 years use out of the conversion ... not sure what to do really. Hopefully we might have the money sooner as I've been conservative with my earnings but we'll see.

We also talked about maybe having only one child, DH is an only child & is a very good example of one. I can see the benefits of having one but as I grew up with a sister I can see the benefits of two ... Still got a while to decide about that! :o

  • Hello from one very sweaty Daisy!! It's SO warm here today & I've been at work since 06:00 & will finish at about 23:00! Rubbish but all pennies in the bank!

Chappy's girlfriend has arrived today & she seems lovely! I'm so pleased & relieved as I was getting sick of telling the chappy off about dirty sinks etc!! (I'm not really as bad as that sounds, I promise!) Harvey loves her already as she was playing ball with him! He's so easy!! :rotfl: It's nice to not be the only female in the house too!

I finally put some bits on ebay yesterday which I've been meaning to do for a long time! Nothing will make mega bucks but I'd be happy to just get rid of all the carp tbh! I also got rid of a pram & car seat through freecycle that I had picked up from there for a friend but she didn't want it in the end. Glad that's out of the garage. Going to keep trying to put a few things on ebay at the weekends, it's just difficult as Sunday used to be my ebay day but now I work every Sunday.

I also need to pick up on the surveys, reading some of the diaries on here makes me feel really lazy on the making extra money front!

I've also decided that I'm not going to save a £1000 for my account as I've saved around £750 & only have £200 in my account as I've been spending it like water!! So will keep it as it is & now focus on the Uni money! I'm also not sure whether to throw everything into the savings at the moment and then do the mortgage ... but my worry is that there will always be something to save for & we'll never get around to the mortgage ...

Hope everything is bright & sunny in MFW land today! :)

[STRIKE]Top up on accounts: Joint £1,500 (this is where the bills come out of); DH's £500 (to make it up to what it used to be before he met me!); mine £1000. This will basically give us a bit of a buffer and take the accounts up to what they used to be.[/STRIKE] Done :D
[STRIKE]Uni Bridging Course £3,000 (I'm doing a diploma at the moment and may carry this on to MSc level but I would need to do a one year part time bridging course first & it's an estimated cost).[/STRIKE] No longer needed :D
MSc Yr 1 £3,000 and MSc Yr 2 £3,000 (these are estimated costs) Now an MA not MSc!
America £1,500 we are hoping to go out there again next year for a 'proper' honeymoon (although we will be going with MIL!) DH's sister lives out there so we will be visiting much loved family too.
And finally (and mostly importantly for me!) baby savings! :D I'm hoping to save £5,000 to allow me some maternity leave,

AND £11,000 for the garage conversion!

So after all that has been saved for I can properly crack on with the mortgage! Only £18.5k to go ...

It is tempting to crack on with these savings & do the mortgage after ...

know the feeling well...had got a pot of cash to throw at mortgage but decided to have my garden totally revamped instead!!! :D I know that the mortgage ops are important, but my theory is I won't be going out much, so I need to have a place I love to be if I will spend most of my time in it!!!:D:D:D
