O2 iPhone Simplicity

Hi all
My O2 iPhone 3GS contract runs out in a couple of months, and I'm thinking about taking out the Simplicity SIM-only tariff.
I'd be looking at the 600mins one, which (including a £6 charge for 500MB bolt-on) would be:
£21.50/mo for a 12-month contract or
£26.50/mo for a rolling monthly contract
What I'm wondering is, let's say a few months into the 12-month contract I start wanting more data, would I be able to upgrade to the 1GB data limit and would it be just an extra £4 or an additional fee? Would I have to pay an additional higher fee every month to raise the data bolt-on?
Thanks in advance to anyone who has the answers!

Why pay £21.50 for 600+500MB on a contract if you can get 800+unltd for £20 at giffgaff (the same o2 signal)?
With chitter-chatter (t mobile) you can get 600+500Mb/unltd for £10 (12 months) or for £16 on a rolling contract.
Also talkmobile (Vodafone): 500+500Mb for £12, 1000+1Gb for £18, 750+500Mb for £16 (6 months)0 -
Will these work in my O2 iPhone and will I be able to keep my number?0

If the phone is locked to O2 only giffgaff will work without unlocking. However, unlocking is normally not very expensive. Ask O2 how much.
Your number can be easily ported to any provider.0 -
Ok thanks very much for that info - the giffgaff deals look very good indeed, especially considering the O2 signal!0
