What exactly does it say? Normally you cannot port the number only to the same network:

    http://www.dialaphone.co.uk/help.aspx#Number%20Portability
  • when i clicked the link to place my order it had 4 notes
credit/debit card etc and then it said you can not port your number

im on o2 and wanted to stay on o2 but the deal was too good.

When purchasing this package from Dial-a-Phone you will be unable to port your current number to Vodafone. For more details please contact 0800 183 7902.
Is it a problem to call them? Probably they mean just that you cannot port at the time of purchasing.

It is possible to port from O2 to vodafone - you just cannot port O2 to O2 say, or vodafone to vodafone.

The number port should be done early, so once the new phone arrives, port it within 7 - 14 days and all should be fine. You just need the PAC code to give to vodafone.

If you enter a cashback deal with the retailer (dialaphone in this case), you should let that retailer know that you have changed number through porting - that way your cashbacks in future will go through without any problems.

Out of interest I tried selecting the same phone on o2 and, unlike for Voda, there was no any similar note about inability to port.

It is definitely worth calling and making sure that porting is possible.

I think its to do with vodafone systems not connected up with retailers to allow porting like they do with other networks. Maybe dialaphone need to clarify their wording.

No, this is something different. In the link I posted above they say clearly that that all portings have to be done after receiving and activating the handset+sim.

Ok might be something to worry about - I recall there being issues with vodafone - as being suggested in this thread

    http://forum.vodafone.co.uk/t5/Apple/Can-I-Port-After-Receiving-a-Phone-From-Dialaphone/td-p/455500

But the new wording on dialaphone web site http://www.dialaphone.co.uk/help.aspx#Number%20Portability
does not claim any issues regarding porting to vodafone.

Where do you get the message in the order process saying vodafone port not possible?
I am just trying myself - don't want to enter my details.

After clicking 'Go to checkout' (but before entering any details).
I tried Samsung S2 and Tocco Lite on Voda.

I see it. I guess its best to check with them first or after the phone is delivered. If not possible then OP could send the phone back.
But my suspicion is that its like the problem they have with mobiles co where they can't port numbers to vodafone but have to be done after the phone is purchased by handing the pac code to vodafone.

Discussed in this old thread - but I thought this problem had been resolved or at least vodafone do the porting manually if you provide the pac code after purchase.

I have an interest in clarifying this too, am hoping to switch to vodafone or O2 in October.
