Can anyone help?
The push button on our toilet has broken and wont flush, it is one of these systems:

I spoke to every Plumb and Builder merchant this morning to track down a new flush button but can only order direct from the manufacturer which I have done but it wont be delivered until Monday or Tuesday next week (because I'm in North Scotland!)
This is the only toilet in our house - is there any way to make the toilet flush until the new part comes?
Any help greatfully received!!!

The bucket of water will force down whatever is at the bottom of the loo, so in effect flushing it. I had to do this a few weeks back and it works.LBM: 22.12.2010 :j Self-managed DMP start 29.1.2011DMP Mutual Support Thread No: 4130

All the toilet cistern and flush is, is a means of storing sufficient volume of water to send a quick but large "shot" of water down the toilet pan. Simply turning a tap on over the toilet wouldn't get enough water in in time to shove all the "muck" round the U bend. Half a bucket of water poured reasonably rapidly into the toilet pan will have the same effect.Adventure before Dementia!0

What exactly is wrong with the push button, maybe someone here can give you some advice.Liverpool is one of the wonders of Britain,

SailorSam's got a point - when mine broke it was the stick thing that pushes something else down, couldn't get hold of a replacement and ended up sticking it back in the button with some filler. That rather bodged temporary fix has worked for last two or three years. What exactly is wrong with the push button, maybe someone here can give you some advice.0 -
i'm more intrigued as to what you thought happened when you flushed the bog! It's just a water delivery mechanism...As is a tale, so is life: not how long it is, but how good it is, is what matters.0
