OP - forgot to mention in previous post - it maybe an idea to start watermarking your images with your logo/name in order to prevent others passing off your work as their own.

Yep this is easy enough to do. You need to do it somewhat unobtrusively across the whole picture so it can't just be cropped off though. Something like the below. Have found this http://www.watermark-image.com/ no idea if it's any good.

I can't believe people are that shallow they will slate someone they previously used on facebook, for one free hair extension session. I do think there is a certain amount of if you ignore it it will sort itself out. People like that *love* to see a reaction. I would also hope customers are bright enough to see through the the comments. Have you really seen a fall in custom, or are you just being drawn into being concerned about what she's doing and saying?
Wanted a job, now have one.
  • Based on what you have described she is putting online I think it will probably reflect more badly on her than on you in the long run.

But it is still not acceptable. I wouldn't directly engage with her in anyway if she contacts you (except through a solicitor if it has to go that far)

Perhaps you could get someone else she hasn't blocked to report her to facebook?
  • Thank you so much for all your valuable and kind replies. In all fairness, as of yet i havnt seen a drop in business (though this has only happened on monday) and i have had new bookings who have mentioned it (we have many mutual "friends") and assured me they think its nonsense, which is nice because i dont personally know any of these people.
I do also believe that people will stray away from people who slate/be nasty to others, i really hope thats the case.

I am also shocked at the client whos turned against me. but as she has now removed me as a friend, she is unable to remove her comments on 1 of my photo's singing my praises, and that suits me fine, because people can take from that what they will.
Im so glad i came on here its amazing what other peoples perspectives and kind words can do.
Sorry if ive missed anyones questions will repost if i spot something xx

Hi thanks for that. I have seen these before but wasnt sure how to go about it, will definately do this.
I have stopped retaliating to any comments people tell me about now because it so unprofessional.
On a lighter note, hopefully the old saying will be true for me, "theres no such thing as bad publicity"

I honestly thought you meant this had been going on for a long period of time. Fingers crossed she gets bored very soon, what shes doing is an absolute disgrace. I wish you luck.

She even sent me a message on my personal facebook (not sure how she knew who i was) but must of blocked that me straight after because it wouldnt let me reply or report the message. In that message she actually said "oh and ive got your address its xxxxx xxxxx isnt it? so you better watch yourself) which really infuriated me ive got children here how dare she threaten my home (well it sounded like a threat to me).

If you can still see that message then click the reporting button and send that to facebook showing that she is threatening you. They should take that seriously.

Also find some way of ratting out who the spy among your "friends" is.
  • A very similar situation to this happened for someone who was selling cupcakes and selling from home, using their facebook page to advertise. They found another cupcake seller in their area who was posting pictures of cupcakes that were obviously not made by her and the first lady contacted the second about her false pictures. The same sort of scenario occurred with 2nd cupcake lady slating the 1st's work and trying to nick her customers.

The lesson I learned from witnessing that is DON'T GET INVOLVED! A simple email to the American company, telling them their pics were being used, would be about as much as you needed to do. If they then chose to take action or send a warning, they are within their rights to do that. It doesn't personally affect YOU that the pics are being used, it only potentially affects the owner of the pics.

What the other hair extension place did wasn't right, but if you are checking local rivals' pages, looking for illegal use of pictures, I'd recommend contacting the owner of the pics, not the user living in your area. What they are doing now is just malicious but I can't understand why you got involved in the first place and contacted them. How does the picture use affect you? Let your work speak for itself.

What's going on now is just nasty but I'd only consider pursuing a case against them if you have some form of legal insurance cover. Or it'll get extremely costly, even if you do win.

I would be inclined to ignore her and report her account to Facebook. Continue working on your own business and ignore her totally - the only person who is going to look like a twerp is her.

Why not look at other forms of advertising instead of relying solely on Facebook? e.g LinkedIn, Twitter
