£100 is a small price to pay for it all to go through smoothly especially as your buying a repossesion.0

Not a very nice place to be and apparently difficult for the owner occupiers in the chain to empathise.
Then the chain turn around and say "actually, we're completing on the 19th, you needn't have paid that additional months rent after all".
Sounds like £100 each is fair enough.
But the completion deadline was 18th Aug, which was set by the bank and they made it clear to everyone that they would not agree to extend it. We were all ready to exchange. He didn't tell anyone that he was going to renew it. He could have said that unless we exchanged by yesterday he would have no choice but to renew as that would have forced the bloke second in the chain to agree with the rest of us on completion. He just went ahead and did it. I think I would have more sympathy if he hadn't just decided to annouce out of the blue that he's renewed it and will only complete on 19th Aug if we all pay him.0 -
Moving is a stressful time, theres lots going on and lots of people involved.
Try and look at the bigger picture, rather than blame people. Its not worth the stress or risk of problems over such a small amount (small in the scheme of things). As the 19th is so close I really would just agree to pay and then forget it, theres so much more to be worrying about and doing this close to moving house.
Good luck0 -
Tell your agents that they need to drop their charge to you by £100 or the sale falls through and they get nothing.3.9kWp solar PV installed 21 Sept 2011, due S and 42° roof.

He may well have told the EA and/or his solicitors but these things often get filtered out by agents who are hoping that things will get to the point of no return, so that people will just swallow a bitter pill at the end rather than let things fall apart.3.9kWp solar PV installed 21 Sept 2011, due S and 42° roof.

Please also remember that he is a FTB so may not get things perfectly right first time! He was ensuring thar he wasn't homeless and then the dates changed! It seems fair to me to just pay the £100 and get it sorted. If he was out for everything he could get then he would be asking for the price to be reduced by 1000s instead he's just wanting his rent covered.0

My solicitor and my buyer's solicitor have heard nothing of this through the chain. I have said to the estate agents that we will see if the request comes up through the chain via solicitors and if so, we will make a final decision then. We have pointed out that this FTB originally wanted to complete on 29th July, and we were ready then and could have done so. As he was not ready, and we are now completing in August (hopefully) our removal fees quote has gone up by £173 but we're not trying to make him pay for that. Our buyer may have to cancel her holiday but she's not asking anyone to pay for that.
My solicitor can't understand why he didn't just renew for a week or two if he was that desperate. The bank we are buying from had made it clear that they weren't prepared to extend their deadline for completion.
If it comes down to it I suppose we will have to agree but for now I'm saying no and hoping he backs down first. It's unfortunate that he's renewed his tenancy but I really don't see why the rest of us should have to fork out for it.
rolling tenancies are for a month at a time0 -
Crikey - you are willing to let the whole thing go for a measly £100?!!! And you are spending how many thousands? Your solicitor will be charging you more than that again if your sale falls through. I sympathise with the chap in the rental. Just pay.0

He was probably making sure that he had somewhere to live in case there were any delays. I did this when I bought my house but I didn't have the brass neck to ask the other people in the chain to chip in to help cover my rent.:jOverdraft = Gone!! (24/6/11)

Maybe his landlord said it was extend for a month or get out?
Extend by a month or be potentially homeless, its an easy choice!0
