Afternoon all,
Just waiting for potatoes to cook, then we will have dinner.....mince with courgettes (last of dried ones from 2010), onions, cabbage (needed to be cooked), onion, green pepper from greenhouse, rhubarb sponge and custard or ice-cream to follow.
Dull day here, not cold and very little rain, just the odd sprinkle now and again, have put more washing out, more in machine, will have to put it on airers as no more space on lines.
JackieO, enjoy your holiday.
Bramble...enjoy your weekend, hope that you find your grandad in good form.
Cranky and house elf.....be very careful in Cork....five of my children are there at present and all five of my grandchildren.....DS1 and family are moving into their new house and some of the others are helping, so if you find the air turning blue at any stage run for cover!! Enjoy yourselves.
BB....have dodgy knees so know what the pain can be like....take care of yourself.
Beth....do you ever slow down....had missed you, nice to see you back.
JackieG....when does OH start his new job and when are you coming to annoy me??
Really need to tidy LR before I can sit down to eat, as its driving me nuts.
Hugs to all in need or want

Hi all,
Hope you,ve had a great day.
I am suffering from post traumatic stress induced by helping MIL with church table-top sale, after staying up till 2 am to collect DD from work last night, had to be up early to help MIL set up and sell brick-a-brac was like an invasion of the wrinklies (meant in the most affectionate way) wow those ladies know how to negotiate a bargin
Snaffled myself a great good housing keeping cook book at least 40 years old, so will now know how to cook sole veronique etc LOL
Had to treat myself to a bottle of vino on the way home, and now feel almost human.
I am also lusting after an andrew james food slicer, so after my thrift filled day, have decided to de-clutter and do a car boot sale to earn the money to buy one - big step on for me, as not long ago I would have said s@d it and bought one.
Happy hol,s to those due away and I hope the weather improves for you.
Take care all xNote to self - STOP SPENDING MONEY !!

Hope everyone had good and productive days. I took DD shopping in Watford which cost me dearly as per usual shopping with her in tow! I did however get myself a lovely new dress so i'm happyI bought some sherbert lemons in the market which i'm about to sample after the horror that is Tesco's own brand ones - don't even bother!!
Chicken risotto for dinner tonight followed by rhubarb crumble - I can't wait!
Butterfly - hope your knee doesn't give you trouble tonight
Have a good hol to all who are going

I'm so excited!!! My lovely dad has just been round with a big box of my mum's old cookery books he's been sorting out. I'm now the very happy owner of:
Good Housekeeping Cookery Book (x2 1985 and 1998)
Woman's Own Complete Step by Step Cookery (1994)
and The Dairy Book of Family Cookery (1983)
:j:j:j:j
They're all from the time my mum would have been struggling hard to feed us on 1 income and my dad was growing whatever he could in his lottie, and are totally fab. There's a whole chapter in GH about preserving (inc using pressure cooker for bottling). I know what I'm going to be reading during these dark, damp evenings!!
It's really made my day:D
Oooh, and even better than that - he's also promised to bring a file he found of her hand written recipes. Can't wait to have a look, although I imagine that'll bring on the tears!! it's weird how seeing her hand writing some how makes me feel like she's still here :lovethoug
Hugs to all

i'm hoping me and OH can get a cheap cottage in the winter with a hot tub in scotland. Just seems like it'd be sooo luxuriious!
jackieo bramble bitsy enjoy your hols/day out!
butterflybrain hope your knee is okay, take it easy. There's some mental mum's round here sprinting down the thames with a pram at 7am
Evening all, I'm sitting at my new place on my one waiting for OH. He popped to pick his car up at lunch time and ended up in hospital having a minor op on his peepeeI'm looking for a 24h supermarket so we can do our huge food shop before we leave for wales tomorrow morning. I am very interested to see how much 8 days of shopping will cost us, especially as we need to eat so much climbing mountains.
It's been the most insane build up to the holiday ever but I'm determined it'll still be good! I've juggled our plans round so the beginning of the holiday is more relaxed, but does anyone have any ideas for something "relaxing" to do with your OH?
It's a shame as I don't think he'll be able to do any outdoor swimming now.
I really hope the riots didn't affect anyone here too badly. I was very lucky, the police were all over Kingston so we had no trouble but it was mental up in Brum where my folks are. Little sis was hauled up in the flat above the shop she works in while people were storming down the high street but she really wasn't fazed and text me asking what she should call her new guinea pigs :rotfl:Living cheap in central London :rotfl:0 -
Have just managed to switch on after a crazy day. Uolypool: I' so sorry, I don't know the exact name of the church in Tottenham. A van was collecting stuff from here and taking it up to London. It was a Methodist Church (I'm almost certain) but I will try to find out tomorrow and let you know. My airing cupboard looks almost organised.I believe that friends are quiet angels
