Hi, this is the Daily Thread for Friday 12th August. This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or slow internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred.

When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Some people who chat here like to try to answer everyone. Don’t feel you have to though, a general “hi everyone, hope everyone’s well” type start does just as well.

Morning all!! I think i'm ready to go! Bags are packet, OH and pup are just heading off to work, just need to get everything together and work out what platforms i need to remember. I'm not taking much, so i hope i've not forgotten anything!

Got a milk and more fruit and veg box today - not that impressed with the contents at all for what i paid, but i tried... The stuff is all fresh and will see us through the week, but not longer.

Have managed to put a film on my ipod, which will pass some of the time.

OH informed me the thermos has a leak! not sure if i want the hassle of trying to take it with me, so may buy a new one when i get there for the trip home.

Have a lovely weekend all! I am planning for an internet free weekend :)

    Morning all

Bramble-hope you have a good weekend!

DS off to work at silly o clock-just as well as OH's alarm didn't go off at 6.00-luckilyI was awake!

Bit dull here-hope the sun comes out later. In bed with lappie and a cuppa but it's still early.

Gym today but not much else planned depends how I feel. Chicken with bbq sauce veg and new pots for tea-DS will be hungry after delivering to Cornwall all day.

Booked weekend away yesterday for OH's driving a steam engine day at railway at Buckfastleigh south Devon in October-woodland cabin at Finlake but no hot tub:( and on special offer so OS ish :)
We are going with friends and will self cater.

Well have a good day all.

Morning chums well nearly another week gone and only two days till we all decamp to the Isle of wight for a fortnight. The little boys have been very good and helpful this week and today we are packing all of their treasures that they want to take with them.Half of my dining room table is covered in boxes of food stuff that will go in the car on Saturday night for our start on Sunday morning.I have a running list that I keep by the kettle to remind me of all the odds and ends I take .The holiday is planned down to the last detail as moving three adults and five children across country for two weeks has to be.Buckets and spades and kites and bats and balls and fishing tackle all has to get packed apart from clothes and several boxes of essential food stuff.I usually buy during the year extra bits in with my shopping so we don't have to buy again when we get there detergent, loo rolls, tea bags, coffee, cereals and lots of tinned bits and two large boxes of biscuits in lock'n'lock boxes for the boys to snack on during the week. One has all different sorts that they like, ginger nuts, rich tea digestives ect and the other has the cream ones ,custard creams and bourbons ect.never mix the two or the ordinary ones go soft.We have about £160 in tesco vouchers to go towards the meat and fresh fruit and veg when we are there so it does help cut down on the outlay a bit.We all manage to eat fairly well and have more than enough left over for some nice days out from our main holiday fund.its like a military operation at times and we start the week we return from our holiday to plan and save for the following year
The tribe are very excited at the moment and there is a lot of 'I must remember to take this Gran' and 'I can't forget to take that' I once had to turn back about five minutes after we left as the smallest tribe member Mikey had left his teddy behind and he couldn't go with out his ted :) but we got it and peace was restored and we carried on to Southhamton (one reason why we leave half an hour early just in case)
Weather wise today it doesn't look too bad and I will take the little ones to my library as I have to renew my books, and probably take them to the park afterwards
Hope everyone has a good day
    Cheers JackieO xx

    Morning all,

Its friday :j:j and it looks like it might be a nice day :D

Off to work today, but finish early so all is good, dd is off out with my sis for the afternoon, sis is having a huge party next weekend and dd is helping her to shop for the food bits, I will cook the meat, as she is a veggie, we are just doing cold meats, new pots, salads, and rolls, and quiches pizzas etc for the veggies.

Dinner tonight will be fajhitas, dd's turn to cook :D, will do a wash tonight, and get it on the airer.

Will go and see dad tomorrow, I do feel a bit guilty that I cant get over there during the week, but by the time I have done dinner and the jobs I need to do its too late, mum goes every day, and he is just sleeping a lot atm.

Ok better get on, have good days all xx

    Morning all,

JackieO and Bramble have lovely holidays.

JackieO thanks for the tip about the biscuits, I think the reason that I never realised that is that biscuits only last about a day in our house.

Today it is still dull and overcast but hopefully I won't spend the day running in and out with my washing as I did yesterday! It did all dry eventually.

I am picking DD2 up from a camping sleepover this morning and then we are going for a look around town. Nottingham has been quiet for the last 2 nights so I feel safer taking her in.

Tea tonight is HM pizza "Friday night is pizza night" and them I am going out for a drink with some friends.

    Have a lovely day everyone.:)

    Morning everyone

Happy holidays to all those that are going shortly.

Wet and overcast here this morning. DH up and off to work at stupid early o'clock. Dinner last night was HM lasagne, HM bread, menfolk had chips with theirs, I had salad, have started a real craving for black olives, the last time I had any type of craving was when I was pregnant - boys thought this was highly amusing when they told DH last night and his stock reply was "she'd better have a good explanantion" ..... he had the snip 2 years ago - joking apart I'm sure I'm not, am due any time and have all the normal signs.

Today will be taken up with bank, shopping, baking, washing, ironing, packing small bag only for the weekend. Am trying to be really good with the spends, have been really strict with ourselves the last 3-4 weeks, if I can shop today for a reasonably small amount then will have got us back on track. We go on holiday next Saturday so will have a few extras as it's nice to have a treat or two whilst away. I'm going to bake a banana & honey loaf (to use bananas that are a bit soft) and choc brownies, if I get time will also make a victoria sponge.

Have half menu planned for next week, came to a bit of a halt, seem to have got into a bit of rut again, eating the same food - will be addressing this.

Not much else to say really, keep safe and well everyone, hugs to those that need them.

    Morning all

Looks like a nice day here. Didn't go to the gym yesterday so shall go today. Lappie is still playing up have tried to fix it, think I'm going to have to give in and take it to the computer shop.

Had a really busy day yesterday, made chicken stock in the SC, now in freezer, scrubbed the kitchen and did loads of pruning. Have a feeling that winter is coming early this year and I need to put the garden to bed as I didn't touch it at all last year. Makes things more difficult in spring. Also made a list of jobs to do inside and out which is up on my kitchen cupboards the idea being to choose a job depending on the ammount of time I have.

Plan today to carry on in the garden, need to go to the tip. See if I feel like the gym in a bit. Also need to bake a cake for my Dad as we are having a big party for him tomorrow to celebrate his 80th birthday. Needs to be big enough to feed 26 of us .

BRAMBLE AND JACKIEO enjoy your hols

Big hugs to anyone who needs one. Have a good day all

Had a day out on Wednesday and ended up at Walton on the Naze didn't cost much because we took all our food and had a really nice day.
Didn't get on the forum yesterday because it was shopping day and I had a spill on my scooter  Thank goodness DH was with me, the pavements here all seem to slope to one side and I tipped over , put out my leg to save myself without thinking and really have jarred my worst knee badly. I was in agony all night and the tramadol didn't even touch it. So I will rest it today as much as possible.
smiley-greet013.gifWelcome momof2girls you are just down the road from me as the crow flies :D

Very grey and dreich here so I won't be doing any washing that can wait for a while until the weather is a bit drier (Sunday or Monday according to the forecast)

DH wants a quiet day today - it is his holiday and as he has said he has been driving about all week so I will let him chill and I will just potter around.

    Jackie O have a lovely holiday x

JackieG good news on DH's job and did you find your phone? x

Lou Sorry I missed your birthday and sending you a belated smiley-greet003.gif x

    Have good days all x

    Morning all,
had a terible nights sleep worring about our hectic w/end. DM & OH are coming today for the w/end. Cottage pie for supper but have to shop for some ingredients & essentials, go to PO, bank, and collect DH's meds. Need to vacume & polish upstairs, clean the fridge and the lawn needs mowing again. They want to take us out for a meal on Saturday so proberbly be a late night. I'll make yellow split pea soup and hm bread for lunch. I soaked the peas last night and it's simmering now.

It's DGD's 21st birthday on Sunday so we all off to them Sunday am for brunch, a 2 hr round trip, still have to wrap her pressies that arrived y/day even though I ordered them over a week ago. She sent me a wish list even though we gave her £300 for the holiday she has just returned from. DD1 phoned y/day and asked me to make her birthday cakes in the shape of 21, more ingredients to buy. I have 2 loads of washing hanging about slowly drying, may have to pop them in TD to get them out of the way

Also I'm having DGD2 on Sunday pm and she is sleeping over.
Panicking just re-reading this list of things to do. :(
DH is off to do more plumbing in DD1,s bathroom with a packed lunch of BLT rolls & fruit which I did at 5.30 this morning. DW going like the clappers.

Jackie O and Bramble, enjoy your hols, hope everyone has a good w/end. :)

Awhhh Butterfly, sorry to hear of your tumble, best you put your feet up with DH.
