Council vs Housing Association rent

Hi everyone,

If a housing group/association buy housing stock from the council, and are granted 'charitable status', will they be allowed to charge more rent than the council did, or even what rent they like?

Thanx

Housing Association rents do seem to be higher than Council rents. We live in a 3 bed mid terraced housing association house & pay about £20 p.w. more than my parents in a 3 bed end of terrace council house & also a friend in a 3 bed end of terrace council house. All within 5 min walk of each other. Also the council give 2 wks free rent a year, being xmas wk & the 1st wk in April whereas housing associations don't.

    Thanks 'micknmace'.

Yeah, we're with a housing group that bought our council's housing stock, and we pay more too, but our group is private, but still has to abide by all the government rules, as if still with council, to protect the tenants.

But, for some reason they have now been given charitable status, so I didn't know where we stand legally with rent amount now.

If we've been paying more because they were private, just wonder if it should have gone down as they are now charitable status.
If anyone knows anything about this please?
