Employer wont clamp down on smoking law. Next step?

Good luck with your complaint.
I had a similar problem and you do feel stuck as to what you can do.
My boss (a non-smoker) used to tell staff to stay out of the office when smoking but they would stand in the doorway to talk to him while having a fag. And the wind blew all the smoke into the office so it stank long after the staff had left.
And they also smoked in the canteen which was disgusting. I couldn't go in there. I choose not to smoke and if people want to then fine but consideration please!0 -
I was hoping there'd be an email option, but if i have to call then i'll have to call. I just don't want to feel pressured into revealing who i am or why i'm reporting it.
Ahh i've just found the link. I shall be on it.0 -

Agreed.
I know that there's the ban on smoking indoors, but i think the ban should also include doorways.
You see it everywhere. At the workplace, at the pub (ALWAYS at the pub) - folk huddling in the doorway having their fag.
Now if people wont to smoke then that's their business, but why should i have to walk through a sea of smoke just to get to the place i want to be? I shouldn't!0 -
I doubt getting rid of the doorway thing is ever going to happen.
Smoking inside, in the workplace, I thought that was gone in the mid 1990s for all practical purposes. Shows you how bad some employers are!0 -

Some doorways are included in the current smokefree legislation...it depends on if the 'roof' is fully enclosed and what proportion of the wall space is open. If an area has a roof/ceiling and is more than 50% enclosed around the sides then it should be smoke free. If one of the sides is a door then the 50% is worked out assuming the door is closed.
Bev - I hope environmental health manage to sort out the issue. Hopefully an inspection from them will focus the minds of the management and make them realise it is in their interests to ensure their premises are smoke free!Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -

Yes I know, I live with an enforcer of these rules...!
I just also know that smokers congregate around doorways..:(0 -

Eek...not sure how you cope!
Smokers do seem to like to congregate near/in doorways which is ignorant and rude (IMO) as well as illegal. Given that smokefree compliance is very high in most areas now for 'indoor' places I think it's high time someone started to crack down a bit on the doorway issue!Common sense?...There's nothing common about sense!0 -

If it really gets too much you could leave and site constructive dismissal by your boss
