  • Thanks OP. Have ordered using new code 153FPP for free post and packing.
  • Got a mailshot from them a couple of weeks ago and didn’t open it on purpose so I wouldn’t be tempted – then I come on here and I just had to have the cookbooks :o & some others on top :o:o:o – ended up getting 30 books  & spending £24 with free delivery thanks to the code (not all for me though, some are gifts).

We want to move house soon & I’m meant to be throwing stuff out not buying books

The £5 set of cookery books are paperbacks, shrinkwrapped. If you look on the bookpeople site at the books you are interested in, there is an info button beside them, click that and it will tell you if they are hardback, paperback, how many pages etc.

Shrink-wrapped means they are covered in plastic wrap. These are paperback books btw.
  • Got my books on Friday - here are my thoughts ( have only had a quick browse at each book and not looked at the set of 8 shrinkwrapped books yet):

Only the Best by Michel Roux (£3) - dissapointed with this one - hardly any of the recipes jump out and say 'make me!', the poached nectarines with pistachio creme anglais is a nice idea though, one to try next summer. Has a bit on techniques etc and the photos are good so for £3 I am not complaining!

Oz Clarkes Wine Atlas (£5) - huge, coffee table book! Lots of maps and some good info; very much Old World dominated especially France, which is fine but would like to see a bit more on South Africa, Chile etc (although that would make the book even bigger!)

Home Cook by Alastair Hendy (£3) - nicely surprised by this one, some good basic home cooking recipes in here. Although I probably don't need any more recipes for shepherds pie and spag bol and the recipes are quite erm 'retro' :)
Also his comment about how he eats Mcdonalds and KFC but then he insists on always buying free range/organic is a bit contradictory - why would you eat KFC etc if you were oppossed to factory farming? Sounds like I am being a bit harsh on this one but for £3 it's a bargain, the photos are great and I will probably cook a few recipes from this one.

I still think the best buys on the bookpeople site are:

#'Falling Cloudberries' [£7.99] by Tessa Kiros.
    #'Arabesque' [£9.99] by Claudia Roden.
#'The New English Kitchen' [£4] by Rose Prince.
#'The Kitchen Diaries' [£9.99] by Nigel Slater.

Out of interest I have done a listmania list of my top 10 all-time favourite cookbooks here, with comments: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/richpub/listmania/fullview/R3APZD5BG7JZ9I/ hope it's helpful to someone. :)

Thanks everyone, I had my eye on these books before but couldn't get free p&p on them, now I have the 8 books, plus Rose Prince's New English Kitchen, recommended elsewhere on the OS board :)

I used 153FPP and got a free Annual for my DS too :)
