I read it and am still at a loss as to why you believe the OP is not being truthful. Perhaps you could point it out to everyone.

theres only you that doesnt understand it
    OP damaged loom and fusebox
    op had car repaired elsewhere
car repaired poorly and now not running
    car went to dealer
dealer says all new electrics required at £5500
    i
    op goes to insurer
insurer says you broke so you fix
op then starts new thread looking for compense from original seller or finance company

see all the details are there
    one just has to look
but i suppose if your hands are round your back in your straight jacket and you only have a laptop with a 2 hour battery and a stick in your mouth then reading all the facts might be awkward before the nurse returns with your medication
how was your week by the bracing sea anyway?
i hear eastbourne can be nice if the blankets are tucked in well round your wheelchair:D

Sadly, no. Firstly, because it is an electrical fire there are carcinogens involved and not many companies will touch it and those who do know how to charge - I remember getting a VOSA advisory when ECUs became more widely used in cars about the risk from the carcinogens created during vehicle fires on modern cars.

Secondly it is very labour intensive when it is as severe as the OPs as it needs a full complete check. The entire interior of the car needs to be removed to access the wiring loom behind the dash, in the passenger compartment and even inside the doors if it has central locking, electric windows or mirrors.. This is including the dash and if it has aircon, that also needs draining.

Then the entire wiring loom of the entire car including not only what is in the passenger compartment but the engine bay needs going through which involves removing any insulation wrapping and checking individual wires and connectors.

Once its been found what is safe and what is dodgy, the dodgy stuff needs replacing along with the fuse box and any trim that was burned by the fire. Once that is done, all ECUs and the dashboard need testing (third party job usually) and replacing if needed and that can also involve reprogramming and some of that is main dealer only, especially for modern common rail diesels and for the anti-theft system (reprogramming keys, immobiliser etc).

Once all that is done, then the interior can be put back in.

There is a good full days labour just taking the interior out before you even start to do the job and at £80/hr, thats over £600 just in prep work. This could quite easily be a full weeks work and have £3k+ in labour costs. Main dealer ECU reprogramming could be another £400 and we've not even repaired a single burned out wire yet.
